Job Summary:

To assist teaching and supervising chemistry laboratories. This position is for an undergraduate Chemistry laboratory assistant for either CHM 1040 (GOB), CHM 1110 (General Chemistry I) or CHM 2200 (Organic Chemistry I).

Job Duties:

  • Teaching assistants must be present for the entire lab period. 
  • Teaching assistants will monitor the lab for safety and ensure that the required materials are present in the lab for students completing the experiment. 
  • Teaching assistants must demonstrate knowledge of the experiment and answer student questions. 
  • Teaching assistants will record attendance, check pre-lab submissions, and help grade assignments. 
  • Teaching assistants may be asked to give short presentations on laboratory concepts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a current CSS student 
  • Federal work study eligibility is required
  • Upper-division science major who has completed CHM 1120. 
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Job functions require sitting, standing, and walking during the lab session.
  • Able to attend labs in person
  • Already completed and passed the lab

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Upper division chemistry or biochemistry major
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of chemistry field
