Job Description: Program Assistant for Service & Social Justice


Length of Position: Academic Year


Job Summary:

Program Assistant for Service & Social Justice focuses on providing support and leadership for service and social justice initiatives including: Justice Cafe and Community Day.

Job Duties:

  • Plan and implement the Justice Cafe program
  • Prepare slideshow and related materials for each event
  • Track student involvement in the program
  • Prepare marketing materials and recruit student participants for Justice Cafe
  • Facilitate evaluation process and revise program as appropriate
  • Provide support for planning and implementing service related initiatives.
  • Assist in promoting and advertising service programs through Campus Ministry
  • Assist with day to day logistics, communication, and marketing needs for Community Day
  • Provide support for Campus Ministry as needed including event advertising and support, helping to coordinate Campus Ministry fundraisers, helping to maintain Campus Ministry blog and website, and assisting professional staff with projects as needed.
  • Be dynamically involved in leadership and spiritual formation:
  • If religious, attend a weekly worship service.
  • If non-religious, regularly attend to the development of your personal worldview
  • Active participation in Campus Ministry student leader trainings and meetings
  • Meet regularly with a member of Campus Ministry staff for spiritual development, articulation of progress towards meeting goals, and dialogue about areas of concern.
  • Be willing to collaborate with other student leaders within Campus Ministry.
  • Represent Campus Ministry and all its programming in a positive way to students, parents, staff and faculty, sisters and community members.

 Community Day Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with day to day logistics and communication needs for Community Day
  • Provide support for planning and implementing Community Day and related initiatives.
  • Assist in recruiting and promoting Community Day in a positive way to students, parents, staff and faculty, sisters and community members
  • Provide training and orientation for faculty/staff/student site leaders
  • Provide support for professional staff with projects as needed
  • Other Campus Ministry tasks as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be current or incoming CSS student
  • Federal work study eligibility is NOT required
  • Have an interest and passion for the work of service and social justice
  • Desire to grow in their own spirituality
  • Have prior participation in service and social justice activities
  • Have good oral and written communication skills
  • Be able to effectively facilitate one on one, small and large group activities
  • Be a self-motivated and reliable leader
  • Be supportive of the ecumencial and interfaith nature of campus ministry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Be willing to lead small groups including Justice Cafe programs

Special Instructions to Applicants:

  • Federal work study eligibility is NOT required

Work Schedule:

The majority of work time will be scheduled during regular business hours but will also include occasional evening and weekend commitments.  (approximately 3 hrs per pay period)
