Job Summary:

Upward Bound Tutors work with Superior High School students who are friendly and eager to learn! Tutors facilitate the development of organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills to guide students’ social and academic growth.

Tutoring sessions occur weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 on the UWS campus. Hours are flexible, and additional tutoring hours may be scheduled based on student/tutor availability and need. Saturday Academies take place once a month and last approximately 4 to 7 hours. Tutors/Mentors may be occasionally required to attend Saturday Academies. Tutors start as an "Education Assistant 1," earning a salary of $10/hr.

Job requirements:

1. Tutor high school students in a variety of academic subjects

2. Scaffold positive study habits

3. Mentor students in academic growth, social development, and college preparation

4. Provide and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and retention

5. Assist disadvantaged youth in the development of skills and habits critical for success in college

6. Inform UB Staff of any academic or disciplinary problems that impede tutorial progress

It is preferred that tutors have experience in teaching, peer tutoring, mentoring and demonstrate leadership potential.

Additionally, applicants must:

-Be able to communicate constructively and effectively.

-Be respectful and understanding of the needs of economically disadvantaged high school students.
