The Laboratory Information System (LIS) Analyst will work within the IT department and be charged with the support of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) with specialized focus on lab processes, including but not limited to, implementation of new or upgraded hardware and software systems, analytics, decision support, workflow design and support, and process improvement; documentation of current processes and procedures; and education of core team members, super users, and end users.       RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Provides support for day-to-day LIS production issues, maintaining documentation in the appropriate tracking systems while adhering to prescribed escalation and change control procedures. Troubleshoots hardware/software issues between analyzers and LIS. Identifies and escalates any patient safety or high-risk issues to DRH Health leadership, and works with vendors to resolve issues and re-establish a stable systems environment. Interact with end-users to assist in problem definition and system management. Analyze and solve problems or forward to appropriate next level of support. Facilitates quality audits and metric tracking either through report writing, or by working with the team to ensure appropriate data points are evaluated. Participates in the development and execution of process improvement strategies, including clinical efforts for improved efficiencies, and reduced variations in care.  Maintains a high level of interaction with lab and other appropriate clinical areas to continually enhance/improve work-flow. Coordinate and conduct education and/or end-user training to assure systems are utilized as designed. Participates in every stage of implementation for upgrades and new releases, including planning, testing and validation and documentation according to lab regulatory guidelines. Participates in the design, build, implementation and support of lab instruments and interfaces. Demonstrate ownership of tasks as assigned by IT management, including but not limited to maintaining all lab dictionaries, calculations, rules in LIS and other lab software/middleware according to laboratory regulatory guidelines. Completes assigned tasks as per defined project scope, timelines, and budgets for implementations. Provides documentation and delivery of training on assigned applications. Responsible for routine communication to customers and project team members on issues, tasks, software enhancements/fixes. Compliance with regulations and best practices related to sensitive and/or confidential information.  Exhibit a basic understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA).  Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Participates in the IT on call rotation, and is also willing to answer questions specific to lab systems when not on call. Stays current with both technology and best practice as applicable, through educational opportunities. Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.  Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings. Must adhere to safety protocols at all times. Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations. Performs other related duties as assigned by the department Director.    QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English. Advanced computer skills including but not limited to the ability to implement, evaluate, and modify systems and support team members in executing, testing, and rolling-out solutions. Ability to become a technical subject matter expert in assigned functional area(s). Proficiency in supporting HCIS and non-HCIS applications, in addition to “middleware” that supports laboratory instrument interfaces to the EMR.  Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position. Ability to use analysis and critical thinking in order to assess processes and recommend effective solutions. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills. Experience working well independently and, in a team, setting. Excellent problem solving and relationship building. Education and/or Experience:  Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) requires a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution. Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) requires an associate degree from an approved program. ASCP certification by an approved MLS or MLT program required. At least 3 years of professional work experience in a medical laboratory with at least 1 year in an LIS role.  Moderate knowledge of medical terminology required. Experience with MEDITECH Lab modules, NPR, Report Designer, or SQL reports a plus.  Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:  Current medical laboratory technician or scientist certification (ASCP or equivalent). For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained. As a condition of employment, vaccinations are required per DRH Policy.  Medical and Religious Exemptions are available upon request.
