Position Summary

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Meat Department, including sales, merchandising, inventory control, food safety, labor management, and customer service. This position assists in maintaining department standards, achieving business goals, and ensuring a clean, safe, and productive work environment while delivering an exceptional shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the Meat Department.
  • Support execution of sales, merchandising, and promotional programs.
  • Ensure department displays are properly stocked, rotated, faced, and signed.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to maintain in-stock conditions.
  • Help minimize shrink through proper handling, rotation, and product management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and operational procedures.
Customer Service
  • Provide outstanding customer service and respond promptly to customer inquiries.
  • Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and preparation recommendations.
  • Resolve customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promote a friendly, welcoming shopping environment.
Food Safety and Sanitation
  • Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, labeling, and rotation of products.
  • Monitor department cleanliness, equipment condition, and safety standards.
  • Support adherence to HACCP and company food safety programs.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing department associates.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
  • Help coordinate work assignments and daily department priorities.
  • Provide leadership coverage during the Meat Manager's absence.
Financial Performance
  • Support department sales and profitability goals.
  • Assist in controlling expenses, labor costs, and inventory shrink.
  • Monitor product movement and identify opportunities to improve sales.
  • Maintain pricing accuracy and promotional execution.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous meat department, retail grocery, or food service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of meat products, cutting techniques, merchandising, and food safety practices.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate associates.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance as needed.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.
  • Ability to safely operate department equipment, including slicers, grinders, wrappers, and power jacks as required.
