Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Durango, CO 81301Position Type: RegularSalary Range: $25.00 - $30.00 HourlyDivision/Department: AHR Job Title: AHR Maintenance Tech Reports To: Project Manager Type of position: Non-Exempt Employee Classification: Regular Location: Various Contracting locations Compensation: $25-30 hourly Job Summary: This positions primary duties are associated with performing heavy overhauls and refurbishments on antique railroad passenger equipment and locomotives. Ideal candidates will be highly self-motivated and have the ability to work both solo and with minimal assistance. Candidates must be able to work with minimal, or no direct day-to-day supervision. Projects are centered around rolling stock renovations and locomotive repair projects. Ideal candidates will have multiple skills sets that could include carpentry, electrical, basic welding, general mechanic skills, HVAC and plumbing skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform repairs, maintenance, and inspections of historic railroad equipment and locomotives. Perform basic servicing and repairs on diesel locomotives. Perform general mechanic type work on various types of equipment including minor fabricating and welding projects. Install and repair plumbing and restroom fixtures on passenger cars. Perform repairs and maintenance to HVAC systems on passenger cars. Service and troubleshoot electrical systems on passenger cars. Sand, stain, finish and paint interiors. Install trim and finish woodwork on interiors. Perform other maintenance including but not limited to windows, doors, walkways and seat repairs and replacement. Perform maintenance and upkeep to depot facilities and grounds. Employ basic railroad operating practices and rules to perform safe inspections on rolling stock. Operates company vehicles that require a standard driver’s license. Strict compliance with company procedures/rules and applicable Federal and State regulations. Other duties as assigned. Work Environment: Primarily work within a railroad environment. Extended periods of time walking or standing. Regular time spent outdoors in all types of weather and in non-climate controlled railroad equipment and facilities. Ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl and twist. Regular lifting in excess of 50 pounds. QualificationsEducation, Skill and Work Experience Requirements: Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English. Must be able to interact effectively with volunteers and customers. General mechanical troubleshooting skills. Basic welding and metal working skills a plus. Familiarity working with woodworking tools (hand-held and power tools) preferred. Experience with operation and repair of hand and power tools and some heavy equipment. Experience with routine servicing and maintenance of various types of equipment. Must be able to work alone, or with a small team and be entirely self-sufficient. Must be self-motivated and a self-starter capable of staying on task with little day-to-day oversight. Valid Driver’s License.
