Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Senior Financial Counselor, you will administer various financial assistance programs (Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility, Medical disability, long-term care applications, Hospital Financial Assistance), and meticulously perform financial screenings to direct patients to appropriate programs.

 

Every day you will counsel patients on private and public medical benefits, including insurance and co-payments, verify insurance benefits, explain financial requirements, and collect outstanding patient portions prior to or at the point of service. You will also serve as a mentor to new associates and assist in new employee orientation.

 

To be successful in this role, you will possess strong financial counseling expertise, a deep understanding of complex medical benefits, exceptional communication and negotiation skills for patient interaction and payment plan administration, and the ability to interact with executives on payment plan approvals.

  • Screens patients for application to the Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility, Charity Program or the Foundation Programs and makes determination of eligibility into these programs.
  • Interacts with executives and other leadership on approval of payment plans or settlements.
  • Works closely with the Patient Representatives in researching and handling patient complaints related to billing.
  • Collect patient portion as applicable.
  • Maintains effective communication with physicians and staff through meetings and telephone contact to insure proper implementation of the program.
  • Actively seeks to promote and helps to maintain a positive professional, team-oriented and service conscious environment which contributes to the goals of the department and reflects the values of the System through interactions with all others within and outside the department and Community Agencies.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Knowledge of ICD10 and CPT coding and medical terminology

Preferred

  • One (1) year health care experience
  • Knowledge of registration, billing and credit scoring
