Position Summary: BD is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Vice President, Service – Pharmacy Automation with a strategic focus on elevating the customer experience and driving organizational transformation. This pivotal role reports to the VP/GM of Global Service, with direct responsibility for US operations and the opportunity to shape global service strategies. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in leading large-scale transformation initiatives and delivering best-in-class customer experiences within medical device environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Experience Leadership: Champion a customer-centric service culture by embedding the voice of the customer and service analytics into every aspect of operations, product, and portfolio strategy. Lead initiatives that create differentiated, seamless service experiences to drive loyalty, retention, and commercial success.
  • Transformation & Strategic Execution: Develop and execute a strategic vision for service transformation, leveraging advanced analytics, digital tools, and best practices to optimize service delivery, resource allocation, and operational efficiency across US and global teams.
  • Operational Excellence: Implement scalable, high-impact service management practices that align with BD’s enterprise goals and support the growth of the Pharmacy Automation business, currently generating ~$600M in revenue and supported by a global team of 1,600 associates.
  • P&L Ownership & Profitable Growth: Assume full responsibility for the Pharmacy Automation service P&L, driving profitable growth through effective financial management, strategic investment, and cost optimization. Utilize data-driven decision-making to maximize revenue opportunities and ensure sustainable, long-term business success.
  • Organizational & Talent Development: Build and inspire high-performing, diverse teams. Foster a culture of inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement. Drive talent development through coaching, succession planning, and leadership initiatives.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with regional and commercial leaders to align service offerings with market needs and product strategies. Collaborate closely with product, marketing, and commercial teams to ensure service excellence supports successful product launches and adoption.

Key Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) highly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in regulated medical device industries, including 5+ years leading large, global service organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in service transformation, operational excellence, and customer experience improvement across hardware, connected software, and consumable portfolios.
  • Proven track record of integrating digital platforms, analytics, and automation to enable scalable service delivery and impactful customer outcomes.
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen, with the ability to leverage service data for resource planning and strategic decision-making.
  • Expertise in navigating complex, matrixed organizations and leading change management initiatives.
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills; ability to inspire and influence at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel 30–40% (domestic and international). Ideally based in Durham, NC.
