Duke University:

Duke University was created in 1924 through an indenture of trust by James Buchanan Duke. Today, Duke is regarded as one of America’s leading research universities. Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke is positioned in the heart of the Research Triangle, which is ranked annually as one of the best places in the country to work and live. Duke has more than 15,000 students who study and conduct research in its 10 undergraduate, graduate and professional schools. With about 40,000 employees, Duke is the third largest private employer in North Carolina, and it now has international programs in more than 150 countries.

Be You.

The Department is seeking a Non-Duke Student/Intern to design and execute image analyses of anatomical data in a supportive and collaborative environment. You will support a project in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University to dissect vagus nerves from 50 human cadavers and visualize the vagal complex using multiple imaging modalities spanning gross anatomy, nerve morphology, and microscopy resolving individual neurons. These imaging data provide inputs to computational models of autonomic nerve stimulation used to design therapies and study mechanisms of action.

Be Bold.

  • Develop an imaging analysis pipeline.
  • Conduct image visualization and analyses.
  • Analyze anatomical imaging data generated from human cadaver vagus nerve dissections.
  • Support computational modeling efforts through imaging data inputs.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation.

Choose Duke.

Our goal is to advance bioelectronic medicines through electrical stimulation, block, and recording of peripheral autonomic nerves for disease treatment and restoration of function. This position provides the opportunity to work on a collaborative project involving multimodal imaging of the human vagal complex, with imaging data ranging from gross anatomy to microscopy resolving individual neurons.
