Valvano Day Hospital is comprised of outpatient pediatric specialty clinics and an outpatient pediatric infusion area. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience. Level 4 of the Children's Health Center consists of allergy/immunology, bone marrow transplant, hematology/oncology, and liver transplant clinics, along with a 12-hour, 7-day-a-week infusion unit that supports pediatric outpatient infusions. Patient populations include both oncology and non-oncology patients. Nurses hired for this unit work in both clinics and the infusion area. Chemotherapy certification is required within six months of hire.

Schedule:

  • Full-time mixed schedule of 8 and 12 hour shifts with occasional weekend rotation.

How you will make an impact

  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care in accordance with physician orders, established policies, procedures, and the nursing process.
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Assess patient needs, individualize care plans, evaluate outcomes, and modify care plans based on patient response.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Serve as a team leader or charge nurse as assigned and support coordinated patient care delivery.
  • Maintain a safe environment of care, including monitoring equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in professional development activities, competency maintenance, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Support staff and learner development through precepting and participation in quality and performance improvement initiatives.

What you will need

  • Must have at least one full year of nursing experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma program.
  • All registered nurses without a BSN (or higher) must enroll in an approved BSN program within two years of hire and complete the program within five years of hire.
  • Current North Carolina Registered Nurse license or compact RN license required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, accountability, and family-centered care.
  • Ability to multitask, document assessments, interventions, evaluations, and re-evaluations of patient status.
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill pediatric patients and respond appropriately.
  • Strong patient and family education skills in support of the nursing plan of care.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills with patients, families, visitors, physicians, leadership, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Ability to seek resources independently and work effectively in a fast-paced outpatient specialty and infusion care environment.
