Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Roving Quality Inspector to join our QA team. Unlike traditional, stationary inspector roles, this position requires high mobility. You will move dynamically across multiple work cells to perform real-time audits, first-article inspections, and random spot-checks.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who can seamlessly transition between different manufacturing environments, ensure strict adherence to quality standards, and confidently halt production if a critical defect is detected.
Key Responsibilities
- Dynamic Inspections: Conduct roving in-process and final inspections across various production lines to ensure compliance with blueprints, engineering specs, and SOPs.
- First-Article Inspection (FAI): Verify and approve the first parts of a production run before full-scale manufacturing begins.
- Audit & Spot-Checks: Perform random, unannounced audits of operators, tools, and processes to ensure ongoing adherence to ISO standards and internal quality metrics.
- Defect Containment: Immediately identify, document, and segregate non-conforming materials or products. Issue "MRB" orders when critical quality thresholds are breached.
- Gage & Tool Calibration: Verify that measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gages, etc.) used by operators are calibrated and being used correctly.
- Data & Documentation: Maintain accurate, digital logs of all inspection results, scrap rates, and rework metrics. Input findings into the Quality Management System.
- Root Cause Analysis: Partner with production supervisors and manufacturing engineers to investigate defects and implement corrective/preventative actions (CAPA).
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Experience: 2ā5 years of experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing, assembly, or aerospace/automotive environment.
- Technical Literacy: Proven ability to read and accurately interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols.
- Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, thread gages).
- Mobility & Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move across a large facility floor for the duration of a shift.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to deliver constructive feedback to production teams objectively.
Preferred:
- Experience working within ISO 9001, AS9100, or IATF 16949 quality management systems.
- ASQ (American Society for Quality) Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) designation.
