A qualified Lab Technician will be primarily responsible for planning, performing, and documenting physical testing insulation and materials used during the production process. Will review raw material certified test reports and incoming raw material testing to assure all quality standards are being met.      

Essential Duties:

  • Tests various production wire and cable products in accordance with industry/internal procedures.
  • Tests incoming materials in accordance with industry/internal procedures.
  • Records and maintains accurate data of all testing performed in accordance with documented procedures.
  • Assures that all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, is functional, and calibrated as required.
  • Reviews customer specifications and internal specifications as applicable to determine appropriate testing requirements and initiate the sample procurement process.
  • Evaluates, analyzes, and investigates test data results.
  • Interfaces with various customers, customers’ representatives, or representatives from regulatory agencies in activities related to lab testing and documentation.
  • Assist Marmon IEI-EG Quality Department with sample preparation

These are the general duties required to fulfill the Lab Technician’s job description, not a detailed description of all the work required. New duties and responsibilities may be required to meet the changing demands of the business.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of wire and cable manufacturing processes/operations. Capable of reading and interpreting wire and cable specifications. Knowledge of statistical data as they relate to processes.
  • Ability to work with calipers, measuring tools and testing equipment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision essential; as a specific problem arises, consultation with immediate supervisor or other appropriate personnel expected.
  • Must be confidential and discreet. May work with confidential or proprietary information on processing or constructions, disclosure of which could be against Company interest.
  • Factory environment – exposure to noise, fumes, dust from chemical compounds, elevated temperatures, and machinery.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position sitting, talking, looking at a computer, charts/graphs and performing repetitive motions.
  • Ability to move objects and materials of at least 25lbs.
  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing team members as needed in an environment that can be noisy.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE when onsite.
