Job Description Summary

The Department of Theatre seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2026–27 academic year to teach acting and related courses, mentor and recruit student actors, supervise creative and research projects, and contribute to departmental and university service within a liberal arts context.

Job Description

The Department of Theatre seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, and engaging Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2026-27 academic year to teach courses in acting and related areas (which might include Principles of Acting, Voice & Movement, Acting for the Musical Stage, Acting for the Camera, Acting for Nonmajors, and/or Experiencing Theatre); recruit and mentor student actors; and provide service to the institution. Faculty in the Department of Theatre supervise and mentor student research and creative projects, contribute to theatre studies and liberal education curricula, participate in recruitment activities, and engage in other services as assigned. The department offers a B.A. in Theatre in the context of a liberal arts university.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Terminal degree in acting, directing, theatre, or a closely related field required by date of appointment. 

Consideration may be given to candidates holding an M.F.A. in Acting, prior experience teaching acting; demonstrated ability to teach all levels of acting including courses in acting for the camera, movement, voice, and/or musical theatre; professional experience as an actor in theatre, film, or other segments of the entertainment industry; experience directing theatre productions; experience nurturing and developing new work; and developing inclusive and innovative curricula that blend theory and practice.
