Job Description:
Position Overview:
The Radiation Therapist ensures radiation therapy treatments are delivered with precision in accordance with provider orders. The Radiation Therapist guarantees delivery of personalized care that is focused on meeting the unique needs of each individual patient.
Desired/Required Qualifications:
Required:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certified in Radiation Therapy (RT, T), or eligible.
Successful completion of competency-based orientation program.
CPR certification or acquisition within 90 days of employment.
Physical activity that requires lifting 25-50 lbs., bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, kneeling, and/or twisting.
Specific skills & abilities:
Experience administering radiation therapy treatment
Experience with Mosaiq and Elekta linac machine
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Consistently applies department policy/procedure and works in compliance with all aspects of radiation therapy processes.
2. Maintains basic understanding of interdisciplinary team functions (Physicists, Dosimetrist, Nursing, and others) in support of collaborative care delivery and optimal patient outcomes.
3. Assists with CT simulations and immobilization device fabrication.
4. Guarantees patient identification, readiness, positioning and knowledge of provider approved treatment plan.
5. Competently operates and delivers radiation therapy treatments using treatment console with proper utilization of equipment including immobilization/repositioning and fabricating devices.
6. Maintains keen awareness of machine functionality. Performs daily machine warm-up, QA checks and safety verifications per protocol. Notifies appropriate team members of malfunction.
7. Readily observes and reports changes in the patient’s condition to provider.
8. Provides patient education focused on radiation processes consistent with treatment plan and goals of care.
9. Attends and participates in daily huddles and departmental meetings.
10. Completes thorough charting in the electronic medical record system ensuring documentation is readily available, accurate and up to date.
