POSITION SUMMARY

 

Works in the direct interment/entombment of the deceased, or disinterment/disentombment of remains. Trims memorials and monuments on cemetery grounds. Maintains cemetery grounds and building s under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor. Full time position requires 40 hours per week. Overtime is required as needed.

 

In addition to general groundworker duties, the Landscape/Development I has knowledge, experience and currently performs at least two desired skills in the areas of landscaping, sprinkler systems, plumbing, welding carpentry, construction, mechanical or operational. Requires moderate supervision on some of the required trade skill sets.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

 

  • Mows, edges, general clean-up brush and tree clippings.
  • Removes flowers
  • Prunes, fertilizes, weed control, installs sod, assist in tree planting shrub and flower bed planting, brush cutting and removal and waters grounds.
  • Cleans automobiles and equipment.
  • Cleans office and performs janitorial maintenance.
  • Gathers and removes trash.
  • Performs other cemetery tasks as directed by Supervisor.
  • Maintains good personal appearance; conducts self in a manner befitting funerals and respect for the dead.
  • Responsible for safe and careful handling of all cemetery property and equipment; makes certain of its proper use and security.
  • Makes certain all equipment is clean and stored properly; informs Supervisor of any needed maintenance or repairs to equipment or buildings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience

 

Any combination of experience and education likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • General education sufficient to understand and observe written and oral instructions, directions and safety rules.
  • Previous experience in grounds-care helpful.
  • Training in lawn maintenance and landscaping equipment, excavation safety – all on the job training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

 

Knowledge of: 

  • Application of on-the-job training in procedures and safety
  • Basic edging and trimming equipment operation and repair.

 

Skill in: 

  • Acquiring necessary skills from on-the-job
  • Master's all aspects of at least two primary trade skill set used at the location of employment.

 

Ability to:

 

  • Complete job on own after initial instruction from Supervisor.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Plan and complete job on own initiative.
  • Understand and identify grave locations.
  • Lift heavy objects and equipment’s.
  • Identify any unsafe conditions on the grounds and report them to a supervisor.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Lift objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted and be able to lift heavier objects with the aid of other grounds workers.
  • Operate standard equipment for grounds (lawn mowers, trimmers).
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands and arms.
