Position Summary

The Summer Help position is designated for minor employees seeking seasonal employment during the summer months. This role provides support across various departments within Island Market based on business needs. Assignments may include customer service, stocking, food preparation support, and general store upkeep.

This is a temporary position running from June through the end of August, with the potential for continued year-round employment based on performance, availability, and business needs.

We will continue to take application until the end of April and will be scheduling interviews in May.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Provide friendly, helpful, and respectful customer service in alignment with Island Market standards
Assist in stocking shelves, rotating product, and maintaining clean, organized displays
Support assigned departments such as Front End, Deli, Produce, or Grocery as needed
Maintain cleanliness of work areas, including sweeping, wiping surfaces, and general upkeep
Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines when working in food areas
Work collaboratively with team members and take direction from supervisors
Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs

Qualifications

Must meet minimum age requirements for employment (per state and federal labor laws)
Ability to obtain and maintain any required work permits
Willingness to learn and take direction in a fast-paced environment
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Dependable and able to adhere to scheduled shifts
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed
Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)

Physical Requirements

Frequently stands and walks for the duration of scheduled shifts (up to 6–8 hours)
Regularly bends, reaches, and performs light to moderate physical tasks
Frequently lifts and carries items up to 25 lbs; occasionally up to 40 lbs with assistance
Uses hands for repetitive tasks such as scanning, stocking, and food preparation
May push or pull carts or equipment as needed

Work Environment

Fast-paced retail environment with frequent customer interaction
May work in a variety of settings, including indoor sales floor, stock areas, walk-in coolers, and food preparation areas
Exposure to varying temperatures depending on department assignment

This position is intended to support increased summer business demands
Employment is expected to conclude at the end of August unless otherwise extended
