About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Billing Department Supervisor to lead our billing and coding team and strengthen the performance of our revenue cycle operations. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day billing functions, supporting staff development, monitoring key performance indicators, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building strong working relationships with providers and administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support, and mentor a team of billing and coding professionals while promoting collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Oversee daily billing operations, including claims submission, payment posting, denial and appeal management, coding, accounts receivable follow-up, and patient billing interactions.
  • Monitor productivity and revenue cycle KPIs, analyze performance trends, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement corrective action plans.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for providers and administration, addressing questions, resolving issues, and providing regular updates on revenue cycle performance.
  • Ensure billing and coding practices comply with HIPAA, payer policies, coding guidelines, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and reinforce policies, procedures, workflows, and best practices that improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across the department.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and coordinate training to strengthen team knowledge and skills.
  • Support patient-centered billing interactions and help resolve escalated billing concerns with professionalism and care.
  • Fill in for staff functions when needed as a working team lead to ensure departmental needs are met.
  • Manage staff scheduling, approve time off, verify and submit payroll.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in healthcare billing, coding, or revenue cycle management; leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of physician billing and coding practices, reimbursement methodologies, payer requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Experience monitoring and improving revenue cycle metrics such as accounts receivable, denial rates, claims accuracy, and payment performance.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and the ability to implement and reinforce compliant billing processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with providers, administration, patients, and team members.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Proficiency with healthcare billing systems, revenue cycle software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Medical coding certification such as CPC or CCS is a plus.
