North Central Utility (NCU) is looking for a self-motivated and results-driven Reefer Technician to represent NCU in the semi-trailer service industry.Ā 


North Central Utility isĀ one of the largest semi-trailer dealerships in the nation and the largest in the North Central region with 10 locations throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota. We offer reefer, dry van and flatbed trailers from Utility Trailer Manufacturing at all locations and vocational trailers from MAC Trailers in Wisconsin - we sell new and used semi-trailers. With Moore Space, we offer temporary storage container solutions as well. Our parts department has an extensive inventory in Heavy-Duty Truck/Tractor and Trailer parts. Our broad product line and geographic coverage ensures we are a ā€œOne Stop Shopā€ for truck and semi-trailer parts. Our service department offers everything from routine maintenance, certified DOT inspections to precision laser alignment, as well as complete wreck repair for trailers of all makes and models. No job is too big or too small for our skilled service technicians.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:Ā 

• Experience working on refrigerated trailers or transport refrigeration units

• Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and HVAC/refrigeration principlesĀ 

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain refrigerated trailers (reefers) from major manufacturers (Thermo King,Ā Carrier, etc.)

• Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMs) on refrigeration units, including belts, filters, fluids, and electrical systems

• Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, cooling systems, electrical controls, sensors, and temperatureĀ management components

• Diagnose and repair AC/DC electrical systems, wiring, and control modules

• Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging per EPA guidelines

• Identify mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related failures and determine proper correctiveĀ actions

• Complete road calls and on-site repairs in a mobile service environment (when applicable)

• Use diagnostic software and tools to read fault codes and system data

• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and repair documentation

• Communicate findings, repair recommendations, and timelines with customers or fleet managers

• Follow all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies

• Maintain a clean, organized work area, service truck, and tools

• Assist with other trailer or equipment repairs as needed



Qualifications:Ā 

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferredĀ 

• EPA 608 certification (or ability to obtain)

• Willingness to work flexible hours and/or on-call rotations

• Basic set of toolsĀ 

• Previous experience preferredĀ 

• Computer skillsĀ 

• High mechanical aptitudeĀ 

• Strong interpersonal skillsĀ 

• Welding or fabrication experience preferredĀ 

• Forklift experience preferredĀ 

• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including, but not limited to, the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, reach overhead, stoop, and squat repetitively for long periods of time
