Position Summary 

The Sales Engineer serves as a trusted technical advisor to customers and the ADi Sales team by developing practical automation, integration, controls, and electrical solutions that address customer challenges and support business growth. This role combines technical expertise, customer service, and commercial awareness to help customers define project requirements, evaluate options, and identify the best solution for their application. 

 

Controls & System Integration Support 

  • Apply knowledge of industrial control systems, building automation platforms, electrical distribution, and control panel construction to develop customer solutions. 
  • Support integration of ADi control panels within larger automation, industrial, OEM, and building ecosystems. 
  • Ensure proposed solutions are practical to manufacture, install, commission, and maintain. 
  • Identify opportunities to standardize solutions and leverage ADi engineering and manufacturing capabilities. 

 

Technical Sales Support 

  • Partner with customers and the Sales team to understand operational challenges, technical requirements, project goals, and application needs.  
  • Develop practical controls, automation, and electrical solutions aligned with customer requirements and ADi's capabilities. 
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the sales process by recommending solutions and communicating technical value to customers. 
  • Review customer specifications, electrical drawings, control narratives, schematics, sequences of operation, and other technical documentation.  
  • Respond to technical questions and provide application guidance during solution development, quoting, and project planning. 

 

Estimating & Proposal Development 

  • Develop accurate technical scopes, assumptions, exclusions, and project requirements.  
  • Support the preparation of estimates, quotations, proposals, and technical documentation.  
  • Identify equipment, labor, materials, manufacturing considerations, and technical risks necessary for accurate project costing.  
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Procurement to validate cost, manufacturability, lead times, and technical feasibility.  
  • Support margin objectives by recommending technically sound and commercially viable solutions. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Experience supporting industrial control systems and electrical control panels in a customer-facing technical support, applications engineering, control engineering, or systems integration role. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineeringmechanical engineering, engineering technology, automation, or related technical field preferred.  
  • Minimum of 7+ years of engineering, automation, technical field support or design of industrial control systems such as PLCs, HMIs, remote I/O, power distribution, networking, and integration of third-party equipment. 
  • Minimum of 2+ years of technical sales, solution selling, estimating, customer-facing troubleshooting role or related experience preferred. 
  • Experience integrating control panels, OEM equipment, sensors, drives, meters, building systems or industrial automation equipment into larger operational ecosystems.  
  • Exposure to commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, or lifecycle support of industrial control systems is highly desirable. 

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Primarily office-based with regular interaction in manufacturing and engineering environments. 
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. 
  • Ability to review detailed drawings, schematics, and technical documentation. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 
  • Occasional travel to customer locations, trade shows, suppliers, or industry events. 
  • Ability to access and navigate manufacturing facilities and customer sites as needed, with or without reasonable accommodations.
