Job Duties:

POSITION: A full-time university staff position is available in Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciencesbeginning 2/1/2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The working title for this assignment is Academic Department Associate - SLHS with an official title of Department Assistant. This is an expected-to-continue assignment which requires a six-month probationary period.  The expected hourly hiring salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated technical and organizational skills to facilitate efficiency of service to all students and faculty who need assistance
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and clients who interact with the department and attend the UWEC Speech & Language Clinic
  • Ability to handle time-sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to remain current with and implement university policies and procedures including purchasing, payroll, and travel arrangements
  • Knowledge, skills, and disposition to collaborate with other campus units
  • Ability to learn new systems, software, and processes quickly
  • Knowledge, skills, and disposition to work efficiently, collaboratively, and independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Qualtrics survey software, email, and internet
  • Skill in monitoring budget expenditures, verifying accuracy of all financial transactions, and maintaining accurate file of financial records for review, including credit card logs and receipts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge and skill in campus systems such as CampS, including, but not limited to, course schedules, student permissions, and advisor assignments; 25-Live room scheduling software; BP Logix; WorkDay; textbook ordering; and website maintenance
  • Experience with hiring, scheduling, and supervising student workers and assisting them with payroll
  • Experience with event planning and coordination of departmental events
  • Experience in the communication sciences and disorders field

DUTIES: Serve as the operations manager for the department office and for the UWEC Speech and Language Clinic. Serve as budget manager for the Department and for the S&L Clinic. Assist the Clinic Director with administration of the S&L Clinic. Serve as administrative assistant to departmental administrators.

THE UNIT: The unit of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences consists of 18 staff members, serving undergraduate and graduate students. The field of speech, language, and hearing sciences prepares students to work with individuals across the age span who face challenges with communication, social interaction, cognitive function, and swallowing.
