Position Summary

The In-Plant Railcar Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing freight railcars at customer facilities in accordance with AAR, FRA, customer, and company standards while maintaining a safe, professional, and quality-focused work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect freight railcars in accordance with AAR, FRA, customer, and company requirements.
  • Diagnose defects and perform repairs to brake systems, couplers, draft gear, running gear, safety appliances, and structural components within certification level.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled repair activities.
  • Safely operate hand, pneumatic, hydraulic, and power tools.
  • Follow all safety policies and customer-specific requirements.
  • Complete inspection reports, work orders, labor reporting, and repair documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, inventory, and housekeeping.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening and participate in company drug and alcohol testing.
  • Pass required background screenings.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use tools.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and climb throughout the workday.
  • DOT-regulated vehicle operation may be required.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and remain insurable.
