Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Laboratory Care Technician for the Acute Care Laboratory at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This is a part-time position, 64 hours per 2 week pay period and every other weekend rotation. This position will include primarily day shifts with occasional evening shifts. Day shifts are either 5 am to 1:30 pm or 6 am to 2:30 pm. Evening shifts are either 1:15 pm to 9:45 pm or 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm. This person will be responsible for collection of blood specimen in inpatient/outpatient and pre-surgical settings.  

  

Training for this position will take place over a five-week period and is scheduled full-time, Monday through Friday, during daytime hours.  The first week begins with remote orientation on Monday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.  On Tuesday and Wednesday of that same week, training shifts to on-site sessions running from 7:00am to 3:30pm.  For the remainder of the first week and continuing through the following 4 weeks, training will be conducted on-site during early morning hours, either from 5:00am to 1:30pm or from 6:00am to 2:30pm.  

   

M Health Fairview Southdale Acute Care Laboratory is fast-paced and it is staffed 24hours a day, 7 days a week. Our laboratory provides quality testing in the areas of clinical hematology, chemistry, blood gas, coagulation, urinalysis, transfusion medicine, and blood collection and processing.  

  

Working with diverse populations within a healthcare environment, the LCT plays a meaningful role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with Fairview Values as they interact with our patients, families and co-workers. The LCT performs laboratory specimen collection, as well as, provides for safe and secure specimen handling and point of care testing. Responsible for accurately entering orders and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems; monitoring computer logs for incomplete work; scheduling tests/procedures and providing results in LIS/HIS and over the phone, the LCT's attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the LCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving Fairview's goals.

Following established guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures, prioritizing work to achieve optimal patient outcomes, information Processing, maintaining a safe work environment, demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.   • Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program OR-  
  • Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience OR-

Preferred  

  • Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity
