Job DetailsJob Location: Edmond, OK 73034Position Type: StudentSalary Range: $8.00 - $8.00 HourlyJob Category: OTRS IneligiblePosition Overview This is a regular student clerical position which is responsible for the organization and shelving of library materials, the recurring inventory of the collection, and use of the online catalog. This position operates in conjunction with the Information Desk and may serve as a backup for the Information Desk as needed.   Hours per Week 20 hours per week.   College/Department Chambers Library.   Department Specific Job Functions Working in coordination with the Information Desk, this position is responsible for shelving most library materials, including the Reference Collection, Federal and State Government Documents, Main Collection, Scores, and Media. Responsible for checking temporary book locations and shelving/transferring materials to their permanent locations on schedule. May assist patrons in the use of the online catalog and locating materials in the Main, Curriculum, Children’s, Media, and Score collections. Assists patrons with using equipment including microfilm reader/printers, scanners, photocopiers, and a/v equipment. Serve as a backup to the Information Desk as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.   Enrollment Requirements Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates. Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position during the summer semester, students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification and employment type. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes during the summer term, which apply to both the student and the department. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate). Note: New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes. Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions. Contact jobs@uco.edu for more information.   Qualifications/Experience Preferred Requires a general education plus at least one year of experience in a library setting.   Qualifications/Experience Preferred Experience working in academic libraries. Knowledge of Library of Congress, Dewy Decimal, and SuDoc classification systems.   Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge/use of libraries, specifically library call number systems. Knowledge of library information systems and electronic databases. Must be detail-oriented and have organizational skills to process a large volume of requests promptly. Must meet physical demands of position which include standing, lifting, reaching, and pushing book carts and working in a noisy environment during peak periods. Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions, interpret library policies, and exercise considerable independence and discretion. Must be able to maintain effective work relationships with library users and staff. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
