Maintenance Technician
Full-Time | Non-Exempt | $20/hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operation, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of YMCA facilities and grounds, including the Allison Cassens Early Childhood Development Center, Meyer Center, and Niebur Center. This position helps ensure YMCA facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for members, program participants, staff, and guests through routine maintenance, repairs, custodial support, and facility setup. The schedule is primarily Tuesday-Saturday, with occasional Sundays, and is subject to change based on operational needs.Â

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs general building maintenance, minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and custodial duties throughout all YMCA facilities (including, but not limited to program areas, common spaces and swimming pools).
- Assists with facility and room setup and teardown for programs, meetings, and special events.
- Performs grounds maintenance, including seasonal outdoor work as assigned.
- Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including floors, restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Identifies maintenance needs, documents repair requests, and completes repairs within the scope of the position.
- Assists with preventative maintenance activities to help ensure building systems and equipment remain in good working order.
- Monitors facilities for safety concerns and promptly reports hazards, equipment issues, or security concerns.
- Helps maintain secure buildings by following opening, closing, and facility security procedures.
- Operates maintenance equipment and uses cleaning products safely and according to established procedures.
- Provides courteous service and maintains a professional, respectful, and positive attitude with members, participants, guests, volunteers, and staff.
- Participates in emergency response procedures as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Six months of maintenance, custodial, facilities, construction, or related experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance, custodial procedures, and safe use of tools, equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and safety information.
- CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate professionally with staff, members, vendors, and the public.
- Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

- Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel between YMCA locations.
- Frequently stands, walks, bends, kneels, reaches, climbs, and performs repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Regularly lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Works on ladders and elevated platforms up to 30 feet.
- Uses hand and power tools, maintenance equipment, and cleaning products safely and appropriately.
- Works around dirt, dust, cleaning chemicals, paints, solvents, and other maintenance materials.
- Must have the visual and auditory ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
- Performs maintenance activities that may require crouching, kneeling, crawling, twisting, overhead reaching, shoveling, carrying, and working in confined spaces.
