JOB FAMILY SUMMARY PURPOSE:  

Under the direction of the Manager of Renewable Generation, the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) / Quality Assurance (QA) ‑Quality Control (QC) Renewable Specialist is responsible for implementing and overseeing all quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures throughout every phase of utilityscale photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This role ensures full compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining the highest levels of quality, safety, and reliability across civil, mechanical, and electrical installations. The specialist plays a key role in verifying workmanship, validating equipment installation, supporting commissioning activities, and ensuring that all renewable energy assets meet performance and reliability expectations.

EDUCATION:     

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Field experience is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:     

  • 5 years or more experience required.  

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  • Experience in QA/QC experience in utility-scale solar, BESS, or substation projects.

  • Strong knowledge of PV systems, BESS integration, and high-voltage substation components.

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, IEC, IEEE, and NEC standards.

  • Proficiency in QA/QC tools, inspection checklists, and reporting software.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills 

  • Experience with advanced energy storage technologies and hybrid renewable systems.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance processes and grid interconnection standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:    

  • Develop and maintain Project Quality Plans, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and First Article Inspections for PV, BESS, and collector station components.

  • Ensure all quality documentation is current and aligned with contractual and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to integrate quality requirements into project execution plans.

  • Ensure testing and inspections are passing and acceptable.

  • Conduct thorough inspections and verifications to confirm all construction activities and installed equipment meet project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in site walkdown inspections (Golden Rows, First Article Inspections, etc.).

  • Coordinate and oversee inspections and testing of civil, mechanical, and electrical works, including:

  • Final grade and roadworks checks

  • Basin and SWPPP compliance

  • PV module installation and alignment

  • Cable laying and terminations

  • BESS container installation and integration

  • Collector station equipment (transformers, switchgear, protection systems, etc.)

  • Ensure third-party testing and commissioning activities meet quality and regulatory standards.

  • Monitor compliance with ISO 9001, IEC, IEEE, NEC/NESC, and local codes.

  • Conduct audits and surveillance to verify adherence to QA/QC procedures.

  • Identify, document, and manage non-conformances (NCRs).

  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes.

  • Track and report NCRs and quality KPIs, ensuring transparency on potential schedule impacts.

  • Liaise with EPC contractors on quality-related activities.

  • Participate in quality meetings, inspections, and site walkdowns.  

  • Provide training and guidance to site personnel on QA/QC procedures and best practices.

  • Maintain quality records while ensuring final turnover documentation is accurate.

  • Support mechanical completion, commissioning, substantial completion, and final acceptance processes with quality documentation.

  • Diligently monitor and assess the quality of work performed by contractors and subcontractors, proactively identifying and addressing any deviations or non-conformances to uphold the highest standards of quality throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Coordinates with vendors on equipment quality issues or defects. 

  • Reviews OEM quality documentation, manuals, and installation requirements.
