Position Overview:

As an Armed Transportation Detention Officer, you will be responsible for providing armed security services for transport operations in support of an immigration processing and custodial facility. This position demands constant vigilance, a commitment to state and federal compliance, and the ability to maintain composure in high-pressure environments.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Execute safe escorts to authorized locations, maintaining strict order and discipline throughout the journey.
  • Maintain meticulous, legible logs for all transport security activities, incidents, and equipment inventories.
  • Maintain and carry authorized gear, including a semi-automatic pistol, ballistic vest, and restraint hardware.
  • Ensure all communication devices are fully functional.
  • Monitors transportees and maintains control and order at all times.
  • Monitor the physical well-being of transportees, ensuring all interactions follow appropriate policies and organizational standards.
  • Act as a first responder to disturbances, medical emergencies, or evacuations with poise and sound judgment.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess an active Texas state Armed Security license.
  • All qualified, armed employees working as transportation officers shall have a minimum of one year of experience as a law enforcement officer, military policeman, or as a security officer engaged in functions related to detaining civil or administrative aliens.
  • A degree in a related or appropriate field/discipline may substitute for experience (i.e., detention, corrections, criminal justice, etc.). 
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization. 
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English proficiently.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

Work Environment and Location:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.


Physical Demands: 

The physical demands listed below, though not fully inclusive, are that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The employee is frequently required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
