The Technical Specialist – Electronics Prototyping & Documentation supports the development and production readiness of electronic products manufactured at Holley’s El Paso facility, including MSD ignition, electronic fuel injection (EFI), and Racepak data-acquisition and display products. This hands-on role combines prototype assembly, testing, and troubleshooting with disciplined control of bills of materials, engineering changes, schematics, test records, work instructions, and related technical documentation. The position works closely with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and other cross-functional partners to ensure accurate product records, repeatable builds, and timely implementation of approved changes.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Documentation & Change Control

• Create, organize, maintain, and improve technical documentation for electronics projects, including schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), engineering change notices/orders (ECNs/ECOs), test reports, assembly instructions, product labels, and supporting records.

• Maintain accurate document identification, classification, revision history, approval status, and distribution in accordance with established quality-system and document-control procedures.

• Enter and maintain BOMs, part records, and approved engineering changes in the ERP and electronic document-management systems; verify that released information is complete and current.

• Audit engineering and production documentation packets for accuracy, completeness, traceability, and alignment with approved specifications before release or implementation.

• Coordinate the timely removal or replacement of obsolete documents at points of use and communicate approved revisions to affected stakeholders.

• Serve as a resource to engineers, technicians, and operations employees regarding document workflows, revision status, and record-retrieval requirements.

Electronics Prototyping & Test Support

• Build and rework electronic prototypes, breadboard circuits, cable assemblies, and related components from drawings, schematics, BOMs, and verbal or written engineering direction.

• Perform soldering, component installation, wiring, mechanical assembly, and other fine-motor tasks using appropriate tools, workmanship standards, and electrostatic-discharge (ESD) controls.

• Assist with functional testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of prototype and pre-production electronic assemblies using basic electronic test equipment and approved test methods.

• Record test conditions, results, deviations, defects, and corrective actions clearly and accurately; communicate findings to engineering for evaluation and design improvement.

• Perform visual and basic quality checks on prototypes and documentation, identify discrepancies, and stop or escalate work when requirements are unclear or results do not meet specifications.

• Maintain an organized ESD-safe work area and properly care for tools, fixtures, components, and test equipment.

Cross-Functional Support & Continuous Improvement

• Partner with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Marketing to align product records, manufacturing instructions, labeling, manuals, and release requirements.

• Support prototype-to-production transitions by helping verify that required materials, documentation, test criteria, and instructions are available and accurate.

• Recommend practical improvements that reduce documentation errors, shorten prototype cycle time, improve traceability, and support repeatable manufacturing processes.

• Share document-control and prototype-build best practices with peers and provide task guidance or training within the scope of the role.

• Participate in safety, quality, 5S, lean, and other continuous-improvement activities; follow all company policies, procedures, and applicable work instructions.

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support business and operational needs.

What You Bring:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Two or more years of relevant experience in electronics assembly, electronics prototyping, engineering support, technical documentation, document control, or a closely related environment.

• Working knowledge of electronic components, schematics, bills of materials, assembly methods, and basic electronic test equipment.

• Ability to solder and handle small electronic components with accuracy while following ESD and safe-work practices.

• Experience entering, maintaining, and retrieving controlled information in ERP and electronic document-management systems.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and recordkeeping skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and revision-sensitive work.

• Ability to read and follow technical instructions, identify discrepancies, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively across functions.

• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.

Bonus Points For:

• Associate degree or technical certificate in Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.

• Experience supporting automotive electronics, ignition systems, electronic fuel injection, data acquisition, digital displays, or other embedded-electronics products.

• Experience with ISO-based quality systems, formal engineering-change processes, configuration management, or regulated document control.

• Experience preparing technical work instructions, product documentation, labels, or graphic layouts.

• Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, root-cause analysis, or continuous-improvement methods.

Physical Requirements:

• Regularly use hands and fingers for soldering, wiring, small-component handling, keyboarding, and other precise or repetitive tasks.

• Frequently sit or stand at a workstation or production area for extended periods and move throughout the manufacturing facility.

• Regularly reach, bend, stoop, and use close visual acuity and color differentiation to inspect components, markings, solder joints, and technical documents.

• Lift and carry up to 35 pounds independently, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Wear required personal protective equipment and follow ESD, chemical-handling, and safety procedures applicable to the work performed.

Work Environment:

This position works on-site in an electronics engineering and manufacturing environment that is not fully climate controlled. Temperatures may vary and may be hot or cold depending on seasonal conditions and work location within the facility. The employee may be exposed to normal manufacturing noise, moving equipment, electrostatic-sensitive devices, soldering fumes, flux, adhesives, and mild cleaning solvents. Appropriate ventilation, ESD controls, safe-work practices, and required personal protective equipment must be used. The role requires regular interaction with engineering workspaces and active production areas.
