POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Paralegal
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Summary

The Paralegal will directly support our attorneys through a dynamic blend of administrative, research, and case-management responsibilities, including immigration and removal defense matters. This role involves drafting and reviewing legal documents, conducting in-depth client interviews, and performing detailed research and investigative work to verify facts. The Paralegal will also have opportunities to develop leadership skills by supervising one or more legal assistants. This position is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and is committed to achieving successful legal outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the work of legal assistants, including coordinating workloads and delegating assignments.

  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to legal assistants to support their professional growth and performance.

  • Review and analyze cases, legal documents, and reports prepared by legal assistants to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to attorney review.

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to support case preparation and legal strategy.

  • Interpret and apply laws, rulings, and regulations to a variety of legal documents and factual scenarios.

  • Draft, revise, and finalize legal documents, declarations, and supporting materials with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

  • Communicate effectively with clients, USCIS, other immigration agencies, and internal team members to ensure timely and clear information exchange.

  • Obtain necessary documentation and information from external organizations, agencies, and clients to support active casework.

  • Organize and maintain case files, databases, and tracking systems to ensure records are accurate and up to date.

  • Prepare clear, well-organized legal reports that effectively summarize findings and case developments.

  • Maintain consistent attendance and availability, whether working on-site or remotely as required.

  • Respond promptly and thoroughly to case-related inquiries from legal assistants, attorneys, and other departments.

  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall objectives of the legal team.

Skills and Abilities

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is required (written and verbal).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, and motivate a team while effectively communicating organizational goals.

  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.

  • Working knowledge of legal principles with the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism and care.

Education and Experience

  • Four (4) years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Paralegal certification is preferred but not required.

  • Prior experience in Immigration Law or Litigation is strongly preferred.
