Summary
Part-time Merchant Teller
A Merchant Teller is responsible for the accurate and timely verification and processing of commercial client deposits as well as preparation of currency and coin orders. A Merchant Teller is expected to operate a teller window in the Motor Bank and Commercial Walk-up, as well as process transactions in the Merchant Cash Processing Room. Prepares currency and coin orders for shipment to the Federal Reserve and receives and verifies shipments from the Federal Reserve. Must meet WestStar 5 Star Client Experience expectations to include promoting and cross-selling treasury management products and services.
Essential Functions
- Receives commercial client deposits via armored carrier; ensures that all necessary deposit documents are in proper form; counts and verifies currency, coin and checks for deposit; completes transaction processing and issues receipts; prepares currency and coin orders for shipment.
- Accepts deposits: verifying cash, endorsements, commercial loan and installment loan payments and issues receipts.
- Processes night depository bags; logs bags; processes deposits; makes change orders.
- Prepares currency and coin for Fed shipments; prepares and sends documentation to the Secret Service on counterfeit items
- Prepares adjustments to client accounts for errors in deposits; files, returns or mails copies of deposit tickets and adjustments to clients
- Assists in opening and closing the vault daily; assists in balancing vault currency and coin
- Consistently meets or exceeds established productivity, quality and balancing standards in a professional and courteous manner; meets deadlines.
- Responsible for accurate completion and review of all commercial logs in accordance with bank policy.
- Provides effective client service and assists in resolving issues, problems or complaints within given authority
- Promotes/ cross-sells the Bank’s products and services as opportunities arise.
- Answers customer inquiries and gives balances when requested
- Responsible for maintaining a high level of accuracy and security of bank assets.
- Follows all security procedures (access to area, access to secured equipment / storage / vaults, dual control, identification of non-authorized personnel, etc.)
Additional Responsibilities
- Assists other tellers as needed and other branch locations.
- Is knowledgeable of Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act

Required Education, Experience, Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of customer service experience and 1 year cash handling experience, or equivalent experience in a financial institution.
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members in a professional manner.
- Must have the ability to accurately handle heavy cash flow.
- Ability to operate teller terminal and other standard office equipment.
- Must be able to successfully complete teller training and any other compliance training deemed necessary by the bank.
- Must have basic knowledge with Windows software.
