Sonic Summary

info
  • Icarus is seeking technicians of various experience levels to help build solar-powered aircraft designed for high-altitude flight.
  • Candidates should have hands-on experience with hardware, a strong mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn across multiple disciplines.
  • The role requires practical problem-solving skills and a high attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • The hourly salary for this position ranges from $30 to $55, depending on experience and skills, with potential equity grants as part of the compensation package.
  • The only hard requirement for applicants is experience with Formula SAE, and the hiring process consists of a single interview with the CEO.

Icarus was founded on the belief that the Stratosphere is the Forgotten Frontier and that reclaiming it will define the next era of aerospace and what is possible from the sky. We build solar-powered aircraft that fly at 60,000 ft for weeks at a time, delivering persistent, affordable, and scalable presence from this layer of the atmosphere.

We are looking for a Technicians of all sorts of experience (avionics, harness, integration, build, etc.) who can help turn raw parts, drawings, and ideas into flight-ready aircraft.

This role is for someone hands-on, practical, reliable, and hungry to learn. Someone who can build, fix, organize, assemble, test, clean, improve, and jump into whatever the mission needs.

Mission

Re-establish and maintain dominance in the Stratosphere.

What you’ll do

  • Build, assemble, modify, repair, and test aircraft hardware
  • Support mechanical assembly, wiring, avionics installation, propulsion integration, and flight hardware preparation
  • Work from engineering drawings, CAD, build instructions, checklists, and verbal direction
  • Use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, adhesives, fasteners, fixtures, and basic test equipment
  • Help fabricate and assemble lightweight structures, brackets, harnesses, panels, mounts, fixtures, and aircraft components
  • Support inventory, kitting, part organization, receiving, labeling, and factory cleanliness
  • Inspect your own work and catch problems before they become flight issues
  • Support ground testing, system checkouts, packing, transport, field operations, and flight test prep
  • Work closely with engineers and technicians to troubleshoot problems and improve builds
  • Do whatever needs to get done to help the aircraft fly

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on experience building, assembling, repairing, maintaining, or fabricating real hardware
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with tools
  • High attention to detail and pride in clean workmanship
  • Practical problem-solving ability
  • Willingness to learn across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test
  • Reliable, punctual, hardworking, and low ego
  • Comfortable working in a factory, shop, lab, or field environment
  • Able to follow instructions, ask good questions, and improve quickly
  • Able to move fast without being sloppy
  • No drama, no excuses, no entitlement

  3. Health, dental, and vision insurance
  4. Factory in El Segundo
  5. Real ownership, real hardware, real flight
  6. Small team, massive responsibility
  7. High signal (engineering) to noise (management) culture
  8. Dream desk setup
  9. Daily lunch
  10. Unlimited celsius

This is not a normal technician job

  1. We want builders.
  2. People who take pride in clean work.
  3. People who can move fast without being sloppy.
  4. People who can follow the plan, but also speak up when something looks wrong.
  5. People who are willing to sweep the floor, build a fixture, wire a harness, organize parts, prep an aircraft, and go to the field when needed.
  6. You will work side by side with engineers and a small team building aircraft that actually fly. You will see your work go from factory floor to flight test.
  7. We move fast. We go to Mojave early. We test in the field. We expect ownership, urgency, and quality.

No tourists. No bystanders. Only builders.

Hiring process

  1. This one is simple. One interview with the CEO. The only hard requirement is Formula SAE experience. No long process. No endless interview loops. No corporate nonsense. If you built real hardware on a Formula SAE team and you have the grit, hunger, and humility to grow fast, I want to talk.
