At Astrion, we partner with the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC) to ensure launch vehicles perform flawlessly across their mission life. Our mission: deliver expert technical assessments that drive mission assurance for national security space programs—supporting both the joint warfighter and the nation.

 

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Avionics Project Engineer to provide technical expertise on launch vehicle avionics hardware systems and serve as a key member of the avionics Integrated Product Team (IPT). In this role, you’ll engage with launch service providers, contractors, and government stakeholders to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of critical space systems.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a STEM discipline (Master’s preferred)

  • 8+ years of experience in avionics systems engineering, software systems engineering, or technical program management within space or launch environments

  • Extensive knowledge of launch vehicle avionics systems (flight computers, navigation, comms, engine control, power systems, telemetry, attitude control, range safety, etc.)

  • Proven experience in design, analysis, evaluation, testing, certification, and mission assurance for space/launch avionics hardware and software

  • Familiarity with USSF, NRO, NASA, and major launch vehicle contractors

  • Skilled in supporting hardware reviews, delivering technical presentations, and collaborating with multi-agency teams

  • Proficiency in MS Office, IT systems, and collaborative tools such as Jira/Confluence

  • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently in a high-stakes environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

  • Experience with fleet monitoring, launch support, and flight anomaly resolution

  • Background in agile development environments and collaborative engineering databases (e.g., SharePoint)

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support Launch Service Provider certification by evaluating avionics systems, components, architectures, and cost/technical/schedule/performance factors

  • Perform systems engineering functions including requirements definition, design and test reviews, risk management, pedigree review, verification, operations support, anomaly resolution, and post-flight analysis

  • Plan, coordinate, and present at Engineering Review Boards, program reviews, and other key meetings

  • Develop qualification and acceptance test audit plans/checklists and conduct compliance audits

  • Analyze technical data, generate reports, and manage engineering documentation

  • Review launch vehicle provider avionics compliance documentation against government standards

  • Collaborate with USAF Program Offices, Aerospace Corporation, Launch Vehicle Contractors, subcontractors, launch sites, and DCMA

  • Prepare and deliver weekly status updates and detailed technical reports to leadership
