Guidance, Navigation & Controls (GNC)

Engineering Manager

On-site in El Segundo, CA  

Target salary range: $151,300 - $222,500

 

 

Lead the Guidance, Navigation & Controls (GNC) engineering team responsible for spacecraft attitude control, navigation, Flight Control Software (FCSW), and subsystem performance across satellite programs and constellations. This role oversees technical execution, staffing, process development, and team growth while supporting the full spacecraft lifecycle from mission design through on-orbit operations.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of approximately 10 GNC engineers, including mentoring, performance management, task assignments, and career development
  • Serve as the primary technical and functional lead for GNC subsystem execution across satellite programs
  • Oversee GNC analysis, architecture development, sensor/actuator selection, and Flight Control Software development and validation
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide guidance on spacecraft GNC design and integration activities
  • Drive program execution to ensure technical, cost, and schedule objectives are achieved
  • Develop and improve engineering processes, workflows, and organizational efficiency
  • Support staffing forecasts, hiring efforts, and internal talent development in partnership with recruiting
  • Coordinate IRAD initiatives and continuous improvement efforts with GNC subject matter experts
  • Support spacecraft integration & test (I&T) activities and on-orbit mission operations as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Ability to obtain an Active Secret Clearance required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret/SCI security clearance; U.S. Citizenship required
  • 5+ years of experience in satellite design, spacecraft operations, or related aerospace systems
  • 5+ years of experience with spacecraft GNC systems and tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience in a leadership role including team leadership, technical leadership, project management, or formal people management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in satellite design and/or spacecraft operations
  • Experience leading teams of engineers or managing complex aerospace programs
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Classical and modern control theory
    • Spacecraft system architecture
    • Trade studies and systems integration
    • Spacecraft dynamics and controls
  • Experience developing satellite or constellation CONOPS
  • Familiarity with spacecraft GNC hardware, including:
    • Reaction wheels
    • Control moment gyroscopes (CMGs)
    • Star trackers
    • Inertial sensors
    • Magnetic field sensors
    • Propulsion systems
  • Experience managing project cost and schedule performance
  • Functional engineering management experience
  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI clearance preferred
