About the Role

We are seeking a highly collaborative and detail-oriented Product Developer to lead the development of physical products from concept through production. This role sits at the intersection of design, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain, with hands-on responsibility across injection-molded components, cut-and-sew soft goods, and surface-mount electronics.

The ideal candidate understands how products are actually made, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can translate design intent into manufacturable, scalable solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Own product development from concept, prototyping, validation, and ramp to mass production
  • Collaborate with industrial design, engineering, and manufacturing partners to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective
  • Develop and manage BOMs, technical specifications, and product documentation
  • Lead development of:
    • Injection-molded plastic parts (DFM, tooling, materials, tolerances)
    • Cut & sew assemblies (patterns, materials, construction methods, vendor coordination)
    • Surface-mount electronics (PCBAs, component selection, SMT assembly considerations)
  • Coordinate prototype builds and pilot runs; evaluate samples and implement design revisions
  • Work closely with domestic and overseas manufacturers to resolve technical and production issues
  • Drive cost, quality, and schedule targets throughout the product lifecycle
  • Support testing, validation, and compliance efforts (mechanical, electrical, environmental, reliability)
  • Identify risks early and propose practical solutions to keep programs on track
  • Participate in continuous improvement of development processes and manufacturing workflows

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Products move from concept to production with minimal rework and few surprises
  • Designs translate cleanly into manufacturable, scalable solutions across plastics, soft goods, and electronics
  • Prototype and pilot build issues surface early, and design revisions are implemented quickly and effectively
  • Suppliers are clear, responsive, and accountable due to strong technical direction and follow through
  • BOMs, drawings, and specifications are accurate, current, and trusted by manufacturing partners
  • Cost, quality, and schedule targets are met through practical engineering tradeoffs, not heroics
  • Manufacturing ramps smoothly with predictable yields and resolved top issues
  • Risks are identified early and addressed decisively, with clear options communicated to engineering and leadership
  • The team experiences less friction between design, engineering, and manufacturing because problems are solved at the source

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Development, or a related field
  • 3–7+ years of experience developing physical products for mass production
  • Hands-on experience with at least two of the following:
    • Injection molding
    • Cut & sew / soft goods manufacturing
    • Surface-mount electronics (SMT / PCBA)
  • Strong understanding of DFM, DFA, and manufacturing tradeoffs
  • Experience working directly with suppliers and contract manufacturers
  • Ability to read and create technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Nice to Have

  • Experience developing consumer electronics, wearables, or mixed-material products
  • Familiarity with tooling development, mold qualification, and production ramp-up
  • Experience with overseas manufacturing (Asia preferred)
  • Knowledge of quality systems, testing protocols, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and PLM systems
