Thermal Fill Operator

Position Overview

The Thermal Fill Operator performs repetitive extrusion modification operations to produce quality window and door stock rail products. This position will inspect material for quality defects, feed parts into a machine & operate specialized equipment that fills stock lengths of material with thermal break. The thermal fill helps eliminate the transfer of heat to make windows more energy efficient.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Understand the daily production goals, on-time complete is a critical number
• Read and decipher paperwork to ensure proper specifications are met for each job
• Inspect material for any quality defects
• Tape applicable rails prior to filling
• Feed parts into Thermo-Fill Equipment in specified relationship to the fill nozzle, rollers and or saw blade
• Safely operate the Thermal-Fill machine
• Monitor adequate fill being careful not to overfill
• Verify cut depth and width is within acceptable parameters
• Stack rails according to their type
• Operate the De-bridge saw
• Double check paint coverage
• Unload material and fill carts as laid out in the Pick Order
• Properly clean equipment
• Timely report any maintenance issues
• Fill in at different workstations as production needs require.
• Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
• Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
• Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
• Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibility

No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.

Safety

Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment including but not limited to eye and toe protection. Steal or composite toed footwear is required. Employees must report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properly. Employees must follow any job-specific safety requirements such as Safe Product Handling Guidelines.

Travel

Minimal travel between Quaker campuses is required to for training.

Qualifications

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Must be able to safely operate a Thermo-Fill machine and De-bridge Saw

Preferred Education and Experience

An individual is expected to have the minimum level of education and/or related expertise listed here:

• High school diploma or a passed General Education Development test preferred

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 2:30pm to 1:00am. Occasional overtime of 8 hours on Fridays may be required as job duties demand.

This is a manufacturing job. The employee must be able to:

• regularly lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds;
• work shifts of at least 8-10 hours, and occasionally longer, for 5-6 days each week;
• stand for prolonged periods; and
• occasionally bend, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl as necessary

Vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

This position will use a bump stop or rail assistance when moving material from the cart to the thermal fill machine.

It is an essential job function and safety rule, applicable to every employee working in a safety sensitive classified position, to be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to climactic variations, fumes or airborne particles, various levels of vibration, and moving mechanical parts. Various different types of Personal Protective Equipment might be required based on the employee's work location. The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection.
