Job DetailsJob Location: Electra Memorial Hospital - Electra, TX 76360   Answers emergency calls and makes patient transfers.  Administers first aid to patients in emergency situations providing maximum patient comfort. Relays pertinent information to dispatcher concerning patient condition and maintains necessary patient records of ambulance service. Maintains vehicles and equipment in optimum condition.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate emergency vehicle and assure that vehicles and supplies are properly maintained and stocked. Operate and drive ambulance at a manageable speed. Follow safety procedures and ensure safe and proper transfer of the patient to medical facilities or pre-determined destination. Keep ambulance and equipment in optimum operating condition by cleaning and checking to ensure safe and efficient operation of vehicle and equipment. Notify supervisor of needed maintenance on vehicles. Restock ambulance after each call to ensure adequate supplies are on hand for efficient operation. Routinely verify the expiration date of supplies and ensure equipment is operating properly. Administer emergency medical assistance. Assist in removing patients from various difficult positions and situations using prudent methods, always considering patient’s injuries and danger of situation. Administer first aid to patient in accordance with prudent first aid techniques and degree of training in compliance with hospital protocols. Reassure patient and is attentive to patient’s rights and religious beliefs. Provide care appropriate for the patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Assess and interpret data on the patient’s status to identify patient’s requirements relative to their age specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.   Perform clerical duties. Obtain, when possible, pertinent patient information by interviewing patient, others and by observing, evaluating patient’s condition and relays information to dispatcher or emergency room staff by radio in order that the information be passed on to the medical facility. Maintain dispatching records by recording information required by dispatching form in order to provide accurate record of activity. Obtain patient information necessary for billing. OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS: Maintain confidentiality on a daily basis. Work well with other employees. Perform other functions and tasks as assigned. Promote positive public relations within the community while working with patients, families, medical staff, medical personnel, law officials, fire department personnel and others. Follow standard precautions when providing direct patient care or handling potentially infectious materials. QualificationsEDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent required. EXPERIENCE: One year experience working in an emergency medical environment preferred. Training in Texas Department of Health Certified Program at the Paramedic Level required. PERSONAL JOB-RELATED SKILLS: Knowledge of emergency medical procedures and equipment. Familiarity with operation of emergency medical vehicles and equipment.  Ability to adhere to hospital, local and state guidelines in delivery of emergency care. Effective oral and written communication skills.  LICENSURE, REGISTRY, CERTIFICATIONS: Current certification by the Texas Department of Health as a Licensed Paramedic required. Valid state driver’s license required. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties of position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Bending, stooping, and reaching are required. Pushing and pulling up to 150 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds. Some circumstances require ability to withstand heights, prolonged distances of travel, stress, and hostile environments. The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions and directions.
