General Purpose

JSMM Farms (Niewohner Entites) is looking for a Cattle Processor to process and/or treat cattle according to established procedures, provide the best care for all cattle, and assist in all aspects of animal health.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. In this operation it is important that every employeefocuson the priorities of: CattleHealth; Animal Welfare; Employee Safety,and;Overall Productivity.
  1. Report to work on time each day and begin the day’s activities.
  1. Adhere to the requirements and guidelinesestablishedby the Owners andManager, andadhere to the policies included in the Employee Handbook.
  1. Perform the protocolestablishedfor vaccinating andidentifyingcattle when incoming loads are being processed.
  1. All cattle will receive theappropriate vaccinations, identifications, andsorted toweight for home pens.
  1. All incoming cattle will be put in the receiving pens, then processed, then put into their home pen within three days of receiving. Only when approved, this protocol will vary.
  1. Perform assigned operations andensure they are completed accurately, consistently, efficiently, and according to policy including delegating or completing tasks and training.
  1. Ride and manage any horses in your care with a focus on their well-being and overall welfare.
  1. Processand/or treatcattle in your departmentin accordance withestablished policies and procedures and under the instruction of the Vet ShackForeman.
  1. Sort and move cattle as instructed. 
  1. Record all cattle movement,deathsand treatmentsin accordance withestablished procedures.
  1. Ensure adequate animal health product inventory for doctoring andprocessing, andkeep monthly inventory.
  1. Keep the working shedsclean,organizedand efficient.
  1. Load cattle for sale and unload arriving cattle.
  1. Check all incoming cattle for health status,appropriate paperwork, headcount, etc.
  1. Coordinate sorts and movement with the office and feed crew.
  1. Do your part to promote a sense of teamwork, camaraderie,safetyand an enjoyable work environment.
  1. Perform regular maintenance of fences, waterersand feeders and keep the facilities neat and orderly.
  1. Whenoperatingequipment, check oil and fluids, keep the equipment and cab clean, do regular maintenance according to establishedprocedure, and be sure that fuel is filled at the end of the day.
  1. Be Alert! Drive andoperateall equipment according toestablishedoperational and safety procedures.
  1. Drivepickup trucks, 4-wheelersand machinerywith basic common sense. Dents,abuseand other carelessness will not be tolerated.
  1. Provide ideas for new and innovative ways to provide care for cattle at the lowest possible cost with the greatest possible efficiency.
  1. Work in coordination with the Owners and the Manager.
  1. Do not make any purchases without the approval of your leaders. Return with a signed receipt for all purchases and leave that receiptinthe designated location in the office.
  1. Be aware of potential environmental issues and notify the Manager of any concerns in this area.
  1. Keep waste to a minimum and constantly evaluate ways to reduce costs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to do hard physical labor.
  • Strong commitment toteam work.
  • Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations.

Physical Requirements:  

  • Must be able to stand on concrete forlong periodsof time
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis

Dress and Personal Protective Equipment: 

Must wear appropriate clothing for all operations to protect against injury—safety glasses; no loose clothing; gloves; ear protection; etc.
