Feedlot Foreman

Job Summary

The Feedlot Foreman provides leadership and oversight for the feedlot operations within Niewohner Brothers Entities. In partnership with the Feedlot Manager, the Foreman is responsible for the success, profitability, and long-term sustainability of the Feedlot.

This position ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, team development, and alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The Foreman represents the feedlot to provide guidance and a clear path for the team with Safety, Quality, Productivity, Teamwork and Financial Acumen for growth.

Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1. Legal Compliance

• Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and maintained.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with all local, state, and federal laws governing feedlot operations.
• Maintain and update environmental, animal welfare, and occupational safety compliance standards.

2. Mission, Policy, and Planning

• Collaborate with the Feedlot Manager to define and implement organizational values, mission, vision, and both short- and long-term strategic goals.
• Monitor and evaluate the feedlot’s effectiveness.
• Keep the Feedlot Manager fully informed on operational conditions, challenges, and opportunities.
• Identify and address issues impacting the feedlot and facilitate appropriate communication and decision-making.
• Recommend and support policies that enhance efficiency, animal welfare, and profitability.

3. Feedlot Operations and Administration

• Oversee daily feedlot activities and ensure smooth, efficient, and high-quality operations.
• Guide/Drive standards, systems, and performance metrics for continuous improvement.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive work environment for all employees.
• Recruit, train, and retain skilled staff and ensure proper management development of the team
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and hold the team accountable for results.
• Oversee maintenance and improvement of the feedlot facilities and equipment.
• Ensure adherence to biosecurity, animal health, and environmental management protocols.

4. Financial Management

• Understand all fiscal activities, including reporting, and auditing.
• Promote cost-effective operations while maintaining high-quality output and animal care standards.
• Review/Implement financing strategies and manage capital and operational expenditures with the guidance of the Feedlot Manager.
• Collaborate with the Feedlot Manager to secure contracts, and vendor relationships.
• Drive the implementation of detailed projects including cost containment, understand the ROI, and implementation timelines.

5. Community and Industry Relations

• Serve as a representative for the Feedlot.
• Promote the feedlots and the Niewohner brand through effective communication and public relations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, vendors, regulators, and agricultural partners.
• Participate in local and regional agricultural organizations and events to enhance visibility and credibility.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• This position carries high responsibility and decision-making authority, requiring strong leadership under pressure.
• Must be able to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and manage complex operational challenges.
• Requires flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
• Must be able to work effectively in both office and outdoor feedlot environments.
• Uphold a professional and positive image representing Niewohner Brothers Entities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of senior management experience, preferably in feedlot or large-scale livestock operations.
• Proven record of success in operational leadership, financial management, and team development.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Feedlot management, animal nutrition, and health protocols
  • Environmental and safety regulations
  • Leadership/employee relations management and organizational development
• Exceptional communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to build and maintain productive relationships across all levels of the organization and community.
• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agribusiness, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
