Job Title: Fulfillment Utility
Classification: Hourly
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Department: Fulfillment
Schedule: 12-Hour Day Shift (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM)
Summary of Job
Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Fulfillment Utility supports finishing and fulfillment operations by ensuring printed materials meet quality, production, and delivery requirements. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring multiple finishing machines while maintaining established quality, safety, and productivity standards. The Fulfillment Utility works closely with team members to support efficient production flow and continuous improvement initiatives.
Overview
The Fulfillment Utility plays a key role in the secondary finishing process by operating and supporting fulfillment equipment, including drills, stitchers, vacuum tables, and other finishing machinery. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and a commitment to quality, safety, and productivity.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Support daily production goals and customer delivery deadlines while meeting established department KPIs.
- Set up, operate, and monitor two or more fulfillment machines simultaneously.
- Perform quality inspections to ensure finished products meet customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Follow required testing protocols and quality procedures throughout the production process.
- Assist with equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs of fulfillment equipment, including drills, stitchers, and vacuum tables.
- Monitor machine performance and promptly communicate equipment issues to minimize downtime.
- Accurately complete daily job performance tickets and production documentation for SAP reconciliation and machine utilization tracking.
- Record machine uptime, downtime, and production information as required.
- Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and work procedures to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Maintain housekeeping standards within the fulfillment department.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on enhancing productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Work with the Continuous Improvement team and Fulfillment department to support and follow standard operating procedures for equipment setup and operation.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to support smooth production operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Knowledge of bindery, finishing, or manufacturing processes preferred.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot fulfillment equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of manufacturing safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and quality requirements.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience with MBO folders, Stahl folders, and vacuum-feed equipment is strongly preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in a printing, bindery, fulfillment, or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience operating finishing or bindery equipment is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of materials up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment.
Environment
- Indoor manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to moving equipment.
- Heat may exceed 90°F.
- Humidity may exceed 80%.
- Noise levels may exceed 85 dB.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
Position Type
- Full-Time
- Pay range: $20-$23
- 12-Hour Day Shift (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM)
- Overtime as required based on business needs
