Job Description and Qualifications: Sidewalk Outreach Nurse – Chicago Region
Position Summary:
The Sidewalk Outreach Nurse for the Alliance Family Services - Chicago Region serves in a frontline medical outreach role focused on engaging women who are actively seeking abortion services and connecting them with compassionate, life-affirming alternatives through our mobile ministry.
This position combines nursing care, patient education, crisis intervention, outreach, and women’s healthcare services. The Sidewalk Outreach Nurse serves as a visible representative of Alliance Family Services outside abortion facilities, offering women immediate support, medical information, pregnancy consultations, and access to services including pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasound examinations, STI testing, nurse consultations, and other available resources.
This role requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where life-changing decisions are often being made in real time. The Sidewalk Outreach Nurse must remain calm, compassionate, professional, and confident while interacting with women and families experiencing fear, uncertainty, stress, or crisis.
The Sidewalk Outreach Nurse will divide time between direct outreach activities and clinical services provided through Alliance Family Services brick and mortar clinics and mobile medical programs. This position plays a critical role in helping women access medical care, support services, and practical resources while promoting the mission and values of Alliance Family Services throughout the community.

Qualifications:
- Fully agrees with and is willing to uphold the Statement of Faith, Statement of Principle, Biblical Code of Conduct, Commitment of Care, Bylaws, and Policies + Procedures of Alliance Family Services.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of and commitment to the sanctity of human life and the mission of Alliance Family Services.
- Holds a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Illinois.
- Sonography certification preferred but not required. Alliance Family Services will provide ultrasound training for qualified candidates.
- CPR certified as a healthcare provider or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients, staff, volunteers, churches, community partners, and the public.
- Possesses emotional maturity, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally intense situations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability and communication with leadership.
- Willingness to work outdoors for portions of the workday and occasional Saturdays as needed.
Responsibilities:
Outreach & Patient Engagement
- Engage women and families outside abortion facilities in a peaceful, compassionate, professional, and non-confrontational manner.
- Provide education regarding available medical services, support programs, community resources, and alternatives to abortion.
- Facilitate appointments for pregnancy testing, ultrasound examinations, STI testing, nurse consultations, and other Alliance Family Services services.
- Build trust and rapport with women facing unplanned pregnancies and assist them in accessing appropriate care and support.
Clinical Services
- Provide direct patient care within scope of nursing practice and Alliance Family Services protocols.
- Conduct pregnancy testing, nurse consultations, STI testing, patient education, and related clinical services.
- Perform limited obstetrical ultrasound examinations if certified or upon completion of Alliance Family Services ultrasound training.
- Document patient encounters, clinical findings, referrals, and follow-up activities accurately and thoroughly.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy and medical record requirements.
Community Engagement
- Represent Alliance Family Services professionally throughout the community.
- Assist with outreach initiatives, educational events, church partnerships, volunteer engagement activities, and public awareness efforts as assigned.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Alliance Family Services and its mission.
Professional Development
- Maintain active nursing licensure and required certifications.
- Complete all required continuing education and competency requirements.
- Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and annual performance evaluations.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
