Sports journalist
Job Description
The Daily Advance is seeking an energetic and dedicated journalist to cover sports-related news and events in Elizabeth City and surrounding counties.
The job will focus on sports features, enterprise reporting and highlighting top athletes and figures. Because we are a small newsroom, the right candidate would also be expected to cover news functions. Hours are flexible, but the job requires working nights and occasionally weekends.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develop strong daily content including features, enterprise pieces and event coverage, including photos and video
- Cultivate sources; recruit and manage contributors
- Coordinate print and digital sports sections
- Manage special projects involving sports
- Meet deadlines and ensure content providers meet schedules
- General assignment reporting
Qualifications:
- Education: College degree preferred
- Previous experience in journalism, sports writing preferred
- Excellent knowledge of language, grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively both verbally and in writing
