HSE Manager 

  • This is an on-site position located in Elko, Nevada.
  • This position requires regular travel throughout the USA, primarily Nevada, Arizona, and California.

Harris Exploration, a division of Earth Drilling, is a trusted source for drilling and installation services in California, Nevada and Arizona with certifications recognized by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association.  We specialize in a variety of drilling solutions, from mineral exploration to water well recovery and geotechnical engineering.  Our team of professionals use cutting-edge dual tube RC technology, wireline core methods and more for obtaining soil and rock samples with precision accuracy.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Operations Director, the HSE Manager is a key member of the Company’s lean leadership team.
  • Working closely with the Director of Operations, lead the development and implementation of a first class HSE culture.
  • Working closely with the operations team, lead the implementation and ongoing management of company and client HSE requirements and programs.
  • Monitor legislation and other requirements related to Safety and Environment that affect the operations; ensure the Company is compliant.
  • Provide HSE guidance, advice, and support to employees and managers in the field.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and onboarding process for the relevant positions of the rig personnel.
  • Lead risk assessment activities as needed.
  • Lead safety and environmental audits.
  • Lead the compiling and management of Safety and Environment data.
  • Keep the Company leaders informed on the relevant matters which may have consequences for safe rig operations.
  • Lead all safety investigations as well as the handling and follow-up of accident/incident reports including timely close-out of actions.
  • Follow-up on items flagged in inspection reports related to Drilling equipment, HSE systems and Equipment and Maintenance issues.
  • Develop a safety training plan and coordinate all new hire onboarding.
  • Help maintain a positive, comfortable, and respectful culture among employees that is based on trust and respect. 
  • Travel between job sites to ensure projects are being completed in a safe and compliant manner; ensuring employees have sufficient safety support and guidance.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and training to team members on various aspects in the field.
  • Other duties as required.


Job Requirements:

  • Relevant post-secondary experience is preferred.
  • 5+ years of HSE experience is required.
  • 5+ years of drilling experience is required.
  • MSHA safety certification is required.
  • Valid driver’s license (personal and CDL) is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to comply with Health and Safety Management Systems and procedures.
  • Willingness to travel and work on-site.
  • Strong problem-solving and initiative skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, influencing skills to build strong relationships, and network effectively with all levels of the organization and with external clients and partners.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility plans and general contracts.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to complete detailed daily reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.  
  • Self-driven, collaborative, and results-oriented.  
  • Resilient, able to handle ambiguity, and enjoys the challenges and rewards of working for a start-up; prior experience in a start-up environment is an asset.  
  • Energized at the idea of helping to create and build a positive work culture.
