Rail Loadout Operator

Location: Clayton, Iowa
Wage: $22.00/hour starting wage, increases based on experience

Schedule: Monday- Friday primarily, some weekend work will be required. Day Shift- 6am-6pm

Position Summary

Pattison Company is seeking Rail Loadout Operators to join our team in Clayton, Iowa. These operators play a critical role in ensuring efficient and accurate rail shipments of our high-quality aggregate materials and silica sand across the country. Rail Loadout Operators are responsible for preparing and staging railcars, monitoring loading processes, and ensuring that all shipments meet company quality and safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform rail-related tasks, including preparing, loading, and inspecting railcars.
  • Clean, inspect, and prepare railcars for return.
  • Secure railcar doors to ensure safe and compliant transport of loaded materials.
  • Verify and maintain quality standards of loaded materials before shipment.
  • Operate, inspect, lubricate, and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  • Assist in the quarry and plant operations as needed, including shoveling material.
  • Accurately input data into Excel spreadsheets and other software to track shipments and quality control measures.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • English proficiency (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to stand for 6-12 hours on uneven sandy/rocky surfaces and perform tasks that require bending or stooping.
  • Work up to 12-hour shifts as needed.
  • Ability to climb ladders, operate machinery, and work at heights.
  • Wear a half-mask respirator for extended periods as required.
  • Lift 60 to 80 lbs. without mechanical assistance.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments and extreme weather conditions.
  • Proficient computer skills and the ability to accurately enter and track data.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Education & Work Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge required (experience with Excel is a plus).

Certifications & Licenses

  • MSHA Part 48 certification required (Training available on-site).
  • Valid driver’s license required for all Pattison Company employees unless deemed non-essential to the position by HR.
