Process Plant Operator

Location: Clayton, Iowa
Wage: $24.00/hour starting wage, increases based on experience

Night Shift Premium: Additional $3/hour for NIGHT SHIFT WORK (6pm-6am)

Schedule: Monday- Friday primarily, some weekend work will be required. Night Shift- 6pm - 6am

Position Summary

We are looking for a Plant Operator to work at our Processing Plant in Clayton, Iowa. This is an above-ground position outside of the mine and is responsible for controlling the operations of our automated plant through the use of computerized control equipment. This is a dynamic operation with constantly evolving conditions that require the plant operator to respond to new responsibilities when presented. This person must be able to quickly and accurately collect and analyze data in order to quickly make changes and improvements when needed. Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate measure and control devices, testing equipment, and material handling equipment 
  • Monitor meters, gauges, valves, flow ratios, temperatures, pressures, and related controls and guidelines to ensure adherence to production/process specifications
  • Operate equipment such as pumps, valves, conveyors, dryers, and belt filters
  • Understand the process startup, shutdown, under flow and over flow interpretations
  • Perform control room operations, process flow, floatex, belt filter, thickener, floc system, and dryer operations
  • Collect and analyze data to quickly make changes and improvements when needed
  • Report any malfunctions or abnormalities immediately and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment
  • Comply with all company standards and regulations 
  • Qualifications & Requirements

    • Use Microsoft Excel for data entry
    • Effectively communicate and coordinate with coworkers and supervisors
    • Proficiently speak and write English
    • Stand for 6-12 hours on uneven sandy/rocky surfaces and bend or stoop
    • Work up to 12-hour shifts 
    • Climb on and off equipment and ladders
    • Work at heights
    • Wear a half-mask respirator for up to 12 hours at a time
    • Lift 60 to 80 pounds without mechanical assistance
    • Self-motivate and work with minimal supervision
    • Work in damp, dimly lit and confined work areas
  • Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
    • Previous related experience given priority
  • Certifications & Licenses

    • MSHA Part 48 certification required (training available on-site)
    • Valid driver’s license required for all Pattison Company employees unless deemed non-essential to the position by HR.
