Scope of Position
Responsible for the design and structural analysis of monumental stairs structures and other miscellaneous metals assemblies. This includes materials such as steel, aluminum, concrete, timber, stainless, and bronze as well as the analysis of glass as a component in the overall stair and guardrail assemblies. The scope of work includes design assistance during the preconstruction, construction, and installation phases of our projects. This includes preparation and review of calculation packages for submittal utilizing structural engineering software and the review of submittal drawing prepared by our detailing department.
Primary Responsibilities/Functions
Sales and Business Development
- Assist with technical proposals, peer review logistics, and rigging plans.
- Attend client meetings, conduct design walkthroughs, and discuss potential risks.
- Collaborate with clients to provide options that meet design intent within budget constraints.
- Serve as an in-house expert, offering Value Engineering (VE) solutions and technical support.
- Discuss stair designs with clients and GCs to support Client Relations (CR) and Business Development (BD) efforts.
- Assist in securing contracts and engage in discussions with potential clients.
- Perform early analysis, initial calculations, loading assessments, and sizing.
Preconstruction (Precon)
- Lead Value Engineering efforts early in the design phase, including optimizing sizing, welds, and connections.
- Oversee and manage 3rd-party engineers by balancing workloads and performing QA/QC reviews.
- Ensure designs align with design intent, budget requirements, and constructability considerations.
- Maintain the engineering workload resource sheet and assist with engineering RFQs.
- Broaden the company’s engineering network and challenge designs to avoid overengineering.
- Conduct constructability reviews and streamline design processes to reduce back-and-forth adjustments.
- Perform third-party QA/QC and confirm that comments are addressed prior to resubmission.
Operations / Construction Support
- Provide field engineering support for issues that arise during fabrication or field conditions.
- Offer in-house technical guidance and conduct virtual or in-person structural inspections.
- Perform QA/QC on welds, structural elements, and fabrication best practices (e.g., bolted vs. welded, CJP vs. PJP).
- Review and approve rigging and erection plans.
- Conduct final QA/QC on fabrication drawings for welds and other structural elements.
- Review for Seal and /or Seal calculation packages and drawings prepared in house.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Focus)
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure required.
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience.
- Expertise in value engineering, structural analysis, and design optimization.
- Expertise in fabrication, primarily steel structures.
- Strong knowledge of industry codes, standards, and software (AutoCAD, STAAD, Revit, etc.).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client engagement skills.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration when on a job site. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
The employee is required to have a clean workspace in home, hotel, etc. for virtual meetings, internally or externally with clients, vendors, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active when on a job site and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Personal Protective Equipment
Utilize PP&E in compliance with OSHA standard and per site specific safety programs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position (40 hours). Workdays are Monday through Friday, work times are dependent on department, projects, and supervisor’s request and approval.
