Summary:

The Learning & Development Specialist II owns the design, development, and delivery of new and existing training programs for HLBMA LLC's production and professional employees, including leadership. This role independently manages defined projects end-to-end, from needs analysis through implementation and reporting and serves as a cross-functional partner to Operations, Quality, EH&S, and Employee Relations on training initiatives. This position operates with moderate autonomy and may guide the work of Specialist I staff on shared projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build new curricula and course guides (e.g., leadership development, technical/skills training) from needs analysis through pilot delivery
  • Develop learning systems, documentation, videos, and job aids for tools, systems, and processes
  • Select instructional techniques and formats appropriate to the audience and content (simulations, role-play, team exercises)
  • Develop alternative training approaches when expected outcomes are not achieved
  • Conduct needs analyses (surveys, stakeholder interviews) and report findings/recommendations to leadership
  • Complete curriculum development tasks: scoping, sequencing, learning objectives, and success metrics
  • Manage project timelines, outlines, and proposals for assigned initiatives
  • Coordinate with other departments to plan and deliver cross-functional learning solutions
  • Test, review, and iterate on learning materials prior to and after rollout
  • Serve as day-to-day point of contact for L&D vendor partners (e.g., Quick Start) on scheduling, course development, and needs analysis
  • Vet prospective vendors and attend sales/scoping meetings as needed
  • Coordinate with Employee Relations, EH&S, Quality, and Operations on compliance and technical training content
  • Support development of standardized tools (e.g., skills matrix format, promotion guidelines) in partnership with Operations
  • Track and report program engagement and completion data to leadership
  • Contribute to L&D internal branding, communications, and newsletter content
  • Guide and review the work of Specialist I team members on shared projects
  • Maintain training spaces in accordance with 5S3R standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Adult Education, Education, Business, Human Resources, Psychology, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in training, education, instructional design, or a related field, including experience in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit for extended periods while using a computer
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and move throughout production and training areas
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry training equipment and materials (e.g., laptops, signage, supplies)
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when present on the production floor
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer, AV/training equipment, and related tools

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office and manufacturing production environments
  • Time on the production floor will expose the employee to typical manufacturing conditions, including noise, temperature variation, and areas requiring PPE
  • Some local travel required to partner sites (e.g., technical colleges, universities, vendor locations)
  • Occasional participation in community/school events (career fairs, mock interviews, outreach)
  • Some international collaboration and occasional travel may be required to support cross-functional learning initiatives
