Summary:
The Control Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving facility and utility control systems within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role focuses on PLC programming, troubleshooting, system support, and assisting with automation improvements related to facility and utility operations including HVAC, boilers, electrical systems, water systems, and other plant infrastructure.
The position supports operational reliability and equipment performance through hands-on controls engineering, system troubleshooting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The role primarily supports Siemens/Mitsubishi PLC systems and assists with automation modifications, system optimization, and facility process improvements within the Energy Engineering team.
Responsibilities:
- Support installation, commissioning, and startup activities for facility and utility control systems and related equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, instrumentation, and automated control systems
- Read, modify, and maintain PLC and HMI programs to support system performance and operational reliability
- Support Siemens PLC systems and related automation infrastructure for facility and utility operations
- Conduct system testing, IO checks, and validation activities to ensure proper operation of automated systems
- Review facility PLC systems and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) to assist in identifying improvement opportunities
- Assist in implementing control system improvements to support reliability and energy efficiency initiatives
- Troubleshoot electrical and control systems using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities for facility automation systems
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to resolve control-related issues
- Assist in analyzing equipment downtime, system alarms, and operational trends to support performance improvements
- Maintain accurate documentation related to PLC programs, system configurations, and troubleshooting activities
- Support implementation of automation upgrades and facility improvement projects
- Follow established work instructions, safety procedures, and company policies at all times
- Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in industrial controls, automation, PLC programming, or related manufacturing engineering environment required
- Experience working with Siemens PLC systems preferred
- Experience supporting facility or utility systems including HVAC, boilers, electrical distribution, water systems, or related infrastructure preferred
- Experience troubleshooting industrial automation systems in a manufacturing environment required
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, control drawings, and P&IDs required
- Experience supporting installation, startup, or maintenance of automated systems preferred
Work Authorization:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
Skills:
- Working knowledge of industrial automation, PLC systems, HMI systems, instrumentation, and electrical controls
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to automated equipment and facility systems
- Familiarity with Siemens and Mitsubishi PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Understanding of industrial electrical systems and control circuits
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and P&IDs
- Good analytical and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, engineering, and Korean-based contractors or headquarters functions
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support facility operations and production schedules
- Trend analysis based on monthly usage (analysis by driving time zone and suggestions for optimal operation)
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to properly and regularly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and other PPE as required
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, and move throughout facility and operational areas for extended periods
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate tools, computers, testing equipment, and control systems
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull tools, materials, and equipment in support of maintenance and engineering activities
- Ability to occasionally work at heights, access equipment platforms, or work in confined or restricted spaces as required
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while programming, troubleshooting, or reviewing system data and documentation
Work Environment:
- Work is performed within a manufacturing facility, including office, utility, mechanical, and production support areas
- Frequent interaction with facility systems including HVAC, boilers, electrical systems, automation equipment, and utility infrastructure
- Regular exposure to industrial equipment, moving machinery, noise, heat, dust, and operational hazards
- Occasional exposure to production or utility areas requiring adherence to safety protocols and PPE requirements
- Fast-paced environment requiring timely response to operational issues, equipment failures, and project deadlines
- Role may require support during off-hours, weekends, shutdowns, or emergency situations to support facility operations and production continuity
