About Sunset Valley Construction

We are an excavation contractor that lays the groundwork to develop and maintain the societal infrastructure that helps sustain everyday life as we know it.

How you’ll get to help us do that

Lead the grading, moving, and shaping of earth for heavy civil, sitework, highway, and utility jobs. Prepare land for essential infrastructure, enabling transportation, and providing access to vital services.

What you’ll get to do

  • Leverage your equipment operation skills and knowledge of heavy civil excavation to plan the sequence and flow of sitework for new schools, apartment buildings, roads, subdivisions, infrastructure rebuilds, and warehouses
  • Optimize productivity and revenue through proactive planning using your in-depth knowledge of materials and costs, grades, elevations, compaction, safety, and trucking
  • Guide and support the ground crew, helping them master best practices and create a positive, encouraging atmosphere that enhances morale and fosters individual development.
  • Use the latest GPS technology, but always remember the value of string lines and lasers
  • Work on projects ranging up to $10M
  • Remain local, working in the greater Hartford area (within 1 hour of Ellington)
  • Work alongside a highly-skilled team committed to keeping you safe and helping you succeed and grow

What you bring to the role

  • You have 2+ years of dozer and skid steer grading experience
  • You know when GPS is awesome and when its not
  • You've got an incredible eye for grading—like, you just know exactly what needs to be done, how, and in what order to get the job done fast, right, and smooth. It's no surprise that projects with you on the team end up being more productive and even more profitable.
  • You’ve got this natural leadership vibe that everyone gravitates toward. It's not just that you know how to get things done—it's the way you bring people together, mentoring in a way that makes everyone feel supported and part of something bigger.
  • You're confident, but humble enough to know that there is always room to grow and are not afraid to admit your mistakes (they happen!)
  • You value the importance of keeping a cool head when things get tough

What’s in it for you

  • 2 pre-paid Southwest plane tickets anywhere in the USA once a year
  • Mentorship and unlimited training (hands-on and digital)
  • Personal use of SVC equipment at any time (as long as it doesn’t interfere with work schedules)
  • A family-first company with generous accrued PTO
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance after 3 months. 75% paid for all employees and immediate family
  • 401K plan with a 3% company match after 3 months
