OBJECTIVES
Under the supervision of the Senior Center Director, Assistant Senior Center Director and Senior Center Lead Van Driver, drives a bus, van or car to transport elderly and disabled residents. Â
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Transports clients to appointments, Senior Center activities, shopping, etc., in vehicles assigned to elderly transportation fleet.
Logs transportation calls; prepares necessary reports and other accurate record keeping information, including destination, time, mileage, passengers, fuel usage, any problems, hours worked, etc.
Performs daily maintenance of vehicles, including cleaning interior and exterior; informs supervisor when maintenance services are due and immediately reports vehicle defects or malfunctions.
Performs daily safety checks on vehicles and checks fuel levels to ensure that vehicles are safe and secure.
Maintains order during the operation of the vehicle and enforces rules; promptly reports all accidents.
Completes daily and weekly maintenance and log reports as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of dispatching policies and procedures.
Good working knowledge of bus and van driving, required safety rules and regulations and in-town and out-of-town routes and locations.
Ability to clearly communicate to others.
Ability to properly maintain and safely drive assigned car, bus and van.
Ability to maintain current and accurate records.
Ability to relate to elderly and persons with disabilities.
Ability to apply first-aid and call for emergency medical services when necessary.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain good relations with passengers.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT OPERATION
Operates telephone and standard office equipment; drives a car, bus and van; operates a wheelchair lift.
REQUIRED PHYSICAL EFFORT
Sit in the office or car, bus or van and drive over extended periods of time; assist elderly and handicapped persons board and leave vehicle and to enter and leave medical facilities; lift and carry packages, bend, walk, push and pull; may occasionally be required to move and/or lift 50 pounds to as much as 100 pounds; clean motor vehicles.
 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum)
Graduation from high school and up to one (1) month of related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Driver must demonstrate adequate driving skills, maintain a good driving record and must have and maintain a drivers’ license valid in Connecticut with Public Service Passenger Endorsement F and/or CDL with passenger endorsement.  CPR/First Aid Certification
