Laboratory Technician II – Ellsworth, IA

JOB SUMMARY

To accurately prepare, conduct and report sample analyses according to approved standard

operating procedures (SOP) and quality control guidelines. Ensure testing services are conducted within anticipated laboratory turn-times. To be responsible for instrument maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure accuracy. To maintain good attendance is a condition of employment and an essential function of your job. To abide by AgSource policies and procedures relevant to this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accurately prepare, conduct and report sample analyses according to laboratory SOP for designated tests.

Calibrate complex laboratory instrumentation according to laboratory SOP.
Prepare samples and execute analysis with a high degree of accuracy to ensure quality results.
Thoroughly complete appropriate documentation including calibration logs, solution logs, scoop / bench sheets, reports of analysis and corrective action forms.
Report results of analysis in a timely manner according to standard laboratory turn-times.
Perform and monitor quality control checks for designated tests to ensure they fall within acceptable thresholds. Assess corrective action steps for failing or inconsistent quality control checks and report to immediate supervisor.
Recognize data inconsistencies and bring to attention of senior staff and/or management.
Perform preventative and daily maintenance of designated instrumentation.
Comprehensively record appropriate diagnostic information in maintenance logs.
Troubleshoot repairs as appropriate with assistance from instrument manufacturer service technicians.
Perform routine laboratory procedures such as media/solution preparation, cleaning of labware and laboratory workspaces, monitor and maintain supply inventory for designated tests.
Provide support to laboratory proficiency testing and certification programs.
Promote and adhere to safety in the workplace.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Follow safe work procedures and report unsafe conditions and injuries immediately.
Inspect own work area and take approved remedial action to minimize or eliminate hazards.
Complete required safety training assignments, forms and paperwork.

REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or GED. Associate degree preferred.
1 to 2+ years laboratory experience.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Proven organizational and time management skills.
Detail orientated nature.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel and LIMS systems.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Scheduling flexibility and ability to work overtime as needed based on workflow and deadlines.
