Schedule: M - F 7AM - 3:30PM
MAIN FUNCTION: The Exercise Specialist assists, facilitates and leads exercise programs based on individual patient's health and ability in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. They collaborate with the Exercise Physiologist, nurse and the multidisciplinary team to identify risk factors and parameters for safe exercise. Reports directly to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator/Program Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and delivers individualized patient-centered treatment plan based on evidence-based practice. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team.
- Selects appropriate interventions based on the plan of care established on the Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) and develops exercise prescription.
- Participates in the periodic reassessment of patient progress and contributes to discharge planning.
- Provides exercise leadership, instruction, and exercise prescription.
- Reports any changes in patient status to collaborating team members.
- Monitors patients for adverse responses to exercise or presentation to a session which would indicate need for termination or not participating. Physician notification per policies.
- Participates in patient risk reduction teaching with group lectures, one on one appointments and with conversation during group exercise time.
- Provides documentation per department and/or hospital policy and as required by insurance provider to meet certification, regulatory, reimbursement requirements, and physician treatment plan.
- Actively be involved in education improvement related to cardiology, pulmonology and exercise science.
- Engage in ongoing personal education opportunities to encompass cardiology and pulmonary patient management.
- Uses professional judgment to ensure safety to self, patients, and others at all times.
- Adheres to appropriate management and response to emergency situations and departmental policies
- Participates in all aspects needed to maintain AACVPR accreditation
- Performs equipment maintenance/cleaning
- Participates and may facilitate quality improvement projects; and serves as a positive change agent. Participates in quality initiatives.
- Provides age appropriate care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Responsible for annual mandatory education as required by the position.
- Maintains a working knowledge of computer software operations

EDUCATION:
Associates Degree and 2 years related healthcare experience required Bachelors degree in exercise physiology, exercise science, kinesiology or Bachelors in a health-related health field preferred. Certification from ACSM (EP or CEP) or AACVPR (CCRP) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Education specialty in cardiac rehabilitation preferred.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Appreciable physical effort or strain; occasionally repetitive efforts. May involve lifting, pushing, pulling. Must be able to lift at least thirty (30) pounds independently and at least one-hundred and fifty (150) pounds with assistance of another person.
